Sustainability at Alyeska Resort

The name “Alyeska” comes from the Aleut word meaning “great land of the white to the east,” reflecting the breathtaking environment we are privileged to call home. In honor of this great land, we are committed to preserving this landscape through sustainable practices, responsible growth, and community support. From reducing our environmental impact to fostering meaningful partnerships, sustainability is at the core of our operations.

We encourage hotel guests to participate in our Green Stay Initiative, which promotes sustainable choices. Visitors staying two nights or more can decline housekeeping services, reducing water and energy consumption. In return, guests will receive a $5 per day dining voucher for use at our resort.

We remain dedicated to responsible and sustainable development as we grow. Our expansion project will protect and enhance the existing trail system, minimize traffic, and preserve the surrounding forests and natural beauty. We are also committed to expanding our terrain for skiing and hiking, providing greater access to the wonders of the natural world. By prioritizing thoughtful planning, we ensure that our growth aligns with our commitment to environmental stewardship and outdoor recreation.

We believe in supporting the people and organizations that make Alaska special. Through our signature events – including Spring Carnival, Blueberry Festival, Fall Food Drive, and others – we harness the power of community celebration to give back. These events help provide resources for life’s basic necessities, education, and access to the outdoors, turning moments of joy into meaningful opportunities to support those in need.

At Alyeska Resort, located in the heart of the Chugach Mountains on the traditional land of the Dena’ina people, sustainability is more than just a promise; it’s a responsibility we embrace to ensure that future generations can continue to experience the natural beauty of this great land.

I LOVE Alyeska! There wasn't a lot of snow while I was there, but it was still beautiful. The rooms can be pricey, but it's so worth it.

It’s been about eight years since I’ve stayed here. Lots of changes some good some not so much. Loved the new Nordic Spa. Was bright and clean, a perfect getaway experience. Do wish the food had been a tad less hipster artisanal. We tried Abar for lunch, simple pub food but nothing too fancy. Staff was gracious as always, housekeeping was a bit lacking on tidying up. We had room service twice. Breakfast was phenomenal, definitely recommend that. Dinner service however was the most disappointing experience. First off charging $50 for a bottle of wine that’s normally less than $20 was outrageous and I’ve certainly been to enough awful church potlucks to know Stouffers Lasagna when I taste it but don’t worry they’ll only charge you $28 a slice for it. They can do better. Overall recommend the stay but don’t book the 3rd floor if you value peace and quiet, it’s unfortunately the hallway to the pool and you’re going to hear everything. As far as the pool goes it’s lovely but would certainly appreciate an adults only time, hard to get in laps with kids cannonballing over your head.

The luxurious atmosphere was evident in every corner. The staff were incredibly attentive and made sure I felt at home. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and had every comfort I could ask for, including a stunning view. I also had the pleasure of dining at their restaurant, where the food was exceptional. The spa experience was the highlight of my stay .I’ve never felt so relaxed and pampered. Everything about this hotel was flawless, and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking for a first-class experience!
Front desk, good service ✔️Concierge, good service again ✔️Forte restaurant, maitre D, ✔️✔️. - one of the waitresses there is so kind and sweet , have mercy, oh, Lord.Great place ✔️The 2nd floor could do with some remodelling - the way to the air tram is a shopping mall and airport terminal in one, compressed into a small corridor, which doesn't quite go along with the hotel's style.[Half ✔️]

Alyeska Resort is absolutely beautiful. The remodeled upper floor rooms are excellent. Only negative are the prices, they have been outrageously inflated over the years, it’s becoming less and less affordable to be able to ski and stay at the resort. Book well in advance to get the cheapest prices.

We recently had a wonderful stay at the Alyeska Resort! It was extremely convenient to the mountain for ski on ski off accommodations which was great! We requested a microwave to re-heat our leftovers and they had it up to us in minutes. Overall, great experience!

The service for the lift ticket and rentals was amazing. Was unexpectedly called away for work and they refunded my ticket, despite being under the 48 hour minimum notice. Very kind and respectful.Amazing mountain with good terrain to test your skills.I will return here when I can!

A must stay! We were there a few days in August to use the spa and eat at Seven Glaciers. Highly highly reccomend. It was a lovely respite and we will be back! The aerial tram up to the restaurant is so beautiful (and surprisingly quick and high!) and the views are unbeatable. The hotel has cool wildlife and period decor, the best part is the northern lights feature in the lobby. Pack warm even in the summer!

A breathtaking resort, with many things for all walks of life to enjoy. From a much-needed day spa experience to hitting the slopes. You can have your cake and eat it too at this place! 🥳🍰👍 Staying on the sixth floor allowed a bird's-eye view of the Christmas lights on the trees below, adding to the ample holiday season vibes felt throughout the resort. 🎄🌟🎅 Staff interactions were all pleasant. Definitely want to say the morning servers at Forte restaurant were what any leader would strive to hire for a fine-dining restaurant at a resort! Good job, yall! 👍👏😊 Overall, having a Christmas Party or simple wanting to indulge in giving you a tasteful weekend in many ways. I'll be choosing Alyeska over anything else in the area every time! 💯🥇🎉

We stayed for a little getaway that included a couples massage and time at the Nordic Spa. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is that the resort is starting to look run down and in need of a restoration. That being said, everything worked well, and the room was clean with nice amenities. The resort pool, hot tub and sauna were very nice and in great shape. The staff was very friendly. Overall, a great stay.

Club level GEMs, Marius and Shelly (?), were amazing and so so accommodating. If you are looking to experience what the locals love about Alaska, just follow their recommendations. Alaska Air Adventures got a helicopter ride and dog sledding, the Nordic spa, a Seven Glaciers meal up the tram, and many many local towns and hikes were all made possible by these wonderful people. They went above and beyond to make our stay the best trip ever. Alyeska is in the perfect town in a perfect location to discover all the surrounding beauty. I hope we get to return someday. We will definitely stay here again if we do!!

Beautiful resort in summer and winter! Loved the views from the top. Enjoyed the gift shop at the top with the walk around viewing platform. Would love to come back during winter for skiing. The grounds in summer were in full bloom. Just gorgeous. The walking trails were busy. Nice active place for families.

This place was absolutely amazing. We stayed here and visited in the summertime. The temperature was perfect. The staff here was absolutely top-notch.Me and my kids ended up getting out and doing a fantastic hike, if you’re looking for recommendations, do the north face hike up to the top.Once you get to the top, there are epic views, the most amazing I’ve ever seen. They also have a sweet restaurant, bar, and gift shop.I would highly recommend this place to anybody passing through, or visiting on a cruise ship, or however, you get to Alaska. Go check this place up.

The resort itself is a beautiful place. The staff were amazing and the amenities were awesome. The rooms were very nice and have a few old, quirky things like push button light switches and a a button on the night stand that turns on the do not disturb light on outside the door. The decor is a bit dated with heavy woods, peeling wallpaper and water stained ceiling in the shower. It was a great place to hold our meeting.

ProsThe hotel is beautifully designed. Has a warm cozy and luxurious feel. There is a towel warmer in the bathroom. The Nordic spa was amazing. Very clean and nice staff. The views are stunning. The tram ride is totally worth it. The coffee and food at the cafe and forte was very good. Close to town where we went to get dinner.ConsWe were unable to change the temp in out room. It's set at 72. We were told there is no a/c and we could use a fan and open the window. The window cracks open a few inches and it wasn't enough to cool the room down. The bed and pillows are too soft. There is no coffee station in the lobby. We are early risers and had to wait until 7 for the cafe to open.

While on the slopes, you will see people using alpine skis, telemark skis, snowboards, and other snow play equipment such as snow skates, snow bikes and adaptive ski gear. You will see skiers of all levels – from beginners enjoying their first day on the slopes to expert skiers with years of experience. It is always your responsibility, regardless of the equipment used or the level of skier that you are, to be courteous to others and to be aware that skiing safely makes the ski slopes safer for all of us.

Alyeska is a large mountain with difficult and dangerous terrain and skiing and riding are dangerous sports.  We do our best to inform guests of the possible hazards associated with snow sports. We do our best to mark hazards and dangerous terrain appropriately. We also actively open and close certain areas of the mountain often due to Snow Safety considerations, ski conditions, or darkness

Our beginner ski zones and high skier traffic areas are important to us and we refer to these areas as “Slow” zones. We label them as such on our trail maps and with signs and banners as you ski through each of these areas. We encourage guests to ‘Go with the Flow’ in these areas, ski only as fast as the skier next to you. Our least favorite part of the job is to be the police on the mountain. We do our best to keep an eye on people skiing around to ensure everyone is skiing safely and within their limits.

Alyeska has set Enforcement Guidelines based on the Skier Responsibility Code and Mountain Safety Concerns for behavior on the mountain. Alyeska operates under a lease through the Department of Natural Resources which requires the resort to enforce violations of state statute. Violations of the Alaska skier safety act or other state laws can be referred to DNR and may lead to a citation. In addition to loss of lift privileges and fines we also require all ‘violators’ to take the Mountain Education Test, a tool used to help educate.
