For Rest Stop: Sept 2019: Heavily used but reasonably well maintained rest area. The grounds and facilities, including the bathrooms, are clean and well maintained. There are several irrigated green grassy lawn areas, and a large, clean pet area. There is some shade from trees, as well as several roofed and partially walled structures intended to shelter the picnic tables. We arrived here on a weekday evening and found the auto parking spaces were about 3/4 occupied. The commercial truck spaces were mostly empty but they filled up completely by 8:00 pm and stayed full until the next morning. By 10:00 pm the auto spaces were fully occupied. About half the auto spaces were filled by vehicles that stayed all night and left the next morning (as we did). The other half of the auto spaces were taken up by a constant churning of vehicles coming and going all night. Some of the people were quiet and peaceful, others (of all ages) were loud and boisterous. All through the evening and night, in the entire rest area and surrounding agricultural lands, there were also many people walking into and through the area, some on foot and some with bicycles, all with backpacks and all carefully and openly slowly watching everyone’s coming and going. Many openly walked back and forth along the parked vehicles slowly looking at the vehicles. About 1:00 AM a Highway Patrol car parked in front of the rest room. There was a sudden disappearance of all the people described above. As soon as the Patrol officer came out of the rest room and drove away, they all reappeared. We did stay overnight here but make your own decision based on what you see when you arrive.
