For Rock Creek: I camped at Rock Creek Campground near Newhope, AR last night. Since it is very shady there, I left today. I need sunshine for my panels. I was disappointed by the upkeep of this area.
Although it’s free, I don’t think it’s worth going there. The 6 mile trip from the highway is barely 2 lane to start and decreases to 1.5 lanes then to 1 lane at which point when meeting traffic, someone must pull off the road. It’s a rock road with a few pot holes most of the way but the last 1/2 mile is full of small washouts in the road and less than 12’ clearance above. It’s still passable for some but the uphills and down are severe at times through the rolling hills.
There were only a few campers there mostly hunters. It was quiet and had a nice view of the lake.
The sites are usable but the 2 sided vault toilet needs painted and new seating. It’s the worst I’ve seen in my travels. It’s listed as primitive camping but I declare a new category, “Caveman Camping†would be more appropriate. I didn’t go to the nearby pay sites so no info. 10/22/18
