For Gravel Pit - Imperial Dam L TVA: The Gravel Pit has some nice advantages from what we found. Easily accessible off Senator Wash Rd., the sites appear to be graded bluffs. Lovely southerly views and some decent AT&T connectivity. Other places we check at Imperial Dam LTVA had good Verizon but no AT&T. Less crowded than areas near the "office" and public toilets above Senator Wash. Not far to the Christian Service Center. Hell and gone from the closest place to buy beer or food. But, that's boondocking.

For Gravel Pit - Imperial Dam L TVA: Gravel Pit is one “neighborhood” of the wonderful Imperial Dam Long-Term Visitor Area (LTVA). I’ve stayed there winter of 2017, 2018 and will be going back this year. We stay and boondock for 3-4 months. Imperial has dump/water/trash stations up near the entrance and there’s propane and good drinking water available at the nearby Christian Service Center, where you can also sign up to recieve mail and packages and go to church if you want to. Gravel Pit has the covered ramada where yoga, senior aerobics and other volunteer-led activities happen. There’s even a jam-session on Sundays. Gravel pit is also one of the areas of the LTVA where there is a vault toilet available if you want to use your black tank less. It is always clean and well-maintained. It’s an area with some actual small trees, and when it rains the small washes can fill quickly, so don’t camp in the obvious low grassy spots. The Pit is one of the busier areas of the LTVA, i may camp farther out this year. 3500 acres to choose from! Generators are allowed 6 am-10pm, but most long-termers are at least partially solar-powered. (we are 100%). You will hear occasional artillery from the Yuma Proving Ground. Interesting military air traffic too, but nights here are VERY quiet and mostly quite dark. Mostly snowbird boondockers come here, Americans and Canadians. People are friendly and we’ve had no problem with security or feeling unsafe at this location. BLM has more information about the larger regional LTVA system, check it out.
