For Monarch - Yoho National Park: We were looking for a place to stay that would be convenient to hiking trails in Yoho National Park. We're self-contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed a week in mid-August in our 8 metre (25 foot) MH. This is an interesting, small campground. All sites are primitive/no hookups. The sites are a variety of sizes and shapes. Most are level or nearly so and gravel. Some are full sun while others are mostly shaded. Sites in the center of the CG are open and less private. Those along the right side of the loop as you drive in have more privacy and more shade. Campfires are not allowed. There is potable water near the washrooms. There's a dump station with rinse and potable water just outside the CG. There's good ATT service while roaming on Bell and usable Verizon while roaming on Telus. All sites are first-come first-serve. The sites filled by early afternoon, earlier after the long weekend. There is overflow parking for those who arrive when the CG is full for ~$8/night. There is significant road and train noise at this CG as it is within site of the TCH and CPR. Although it lost a star for the noise, it gained one for price and convenience of location. There is great hiking and scenic vistas starting from Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls. (Note RVs are allowed on the road to Takakkaw Falls, however, there are specific instructions posted on the road sign near a very tight switchback for vehicles >6 metres (20 feet). Hiking in the Lake O'Hara area requires a bus reservation. There is a NP Visitor Center in Field. There's also a convenience store.

For Monarch - Yoho National Park: Compared to other national park campgrounds in the area - Banff, Jasper and others in Yoho - this is a little sparse with sites very close together and a lot of road noise. With that being said, you are surrounded by beautiful mountains towering right above you. If you want a better camping experience - try kicking horse just up the road..this one seemed to be more of an overflow for that campground. By the way, no campfires at Monarch.
