For Main - Castle Crags State Park: Most sites feature the deafening roar of I-5 traffic--with a little all night Southern Pacific train action thrown in. To be fair, traffic does die down at night (all the better to hear the trains!) And if you're part of the I-5 migration, this is an easy overnight. Which is a shame because there are some truly lovely hikes along streams and rivers and up to the crags.
There are showers but they're funky. Very 1960s era. As someone else said, the sites are not huge. No hookups, but I also didn't experience any generator noise.
Super friendly, helpful staff. Reasonable for a California State Park ($25).
The bad news: it's an active bear area. You really must use the bear box, which is a pain for an overnighter. But less of a pain than having to repair a ripped out window.

For Main - Castle Crags State Park: Beside interstate so it is like you are camping in the median of a interstate. That probably got much worse after the camp was built. Spaces are small so don't try to push the stated length limit.
