For Lake Perris State Rec Area: An easy getaway.
Trip date ? 12-27/30-2013
My family and I just wanted a quick getaway after Christmas and we were looking for some where close and easy to get to. I have camped at Lake Perris many times but it was all quite a few years ago. It was a great time, I think there was only one other group that arrived on our second day.
Pros-
Restrooms were very clean. Even with the lack of people camping they would still come by and check on them every few hours.
Each camp site has a good amount of room (not so much on privacy from the lack of trees/bushes but it is a high desert environment so can't complain there.)
Nice fire pits with flip over grates. It looked like they are in the process of replacing them. Ours was brand new and never used. (The first night smelled a little bad we burned the paint off it.)
Plenty of space and trails to roam around.
All the staff we dealt with was quite friendly.
Lots of trash and recycle bins.
Cons-
The lake is a bit of a walk from the campgrounds. The RV area was closer but still a decent walk.
The campsites in the west loop on the far west side are not that level. They do have nice flat spots for your tent but other than that there is quite a bit of slope to them.
This is from past experiences not really a con if you know what to expect. Being so close to the city you will have neighbors who do not respect camping cortices and probably do not camp often. It is a party lake, has been for as long as I can remember. I will not go anywhere near the place in the summer for that reason (but that's just me, It's great in the winter). If you do not mind some music and hearing the ruckus during the night then you won't mind.
