For Columbine Campground: We camped at Columbine on June 9-12, 2016. It is an okay campground, with adequate shade and good spacing. First the pros: It is located just a couple miles from Central City and Blackhawk, so if you want to combine camping with gambling, this is a good option. Also, there were few bugs, and no mosquitos or biting flies while we were there.
The cons: there really are no outstanding natural features here. No streams or lakes or awesome views. Just trees. And while it was peaceful and quiet when we arrived on a Thursday, by Friday afternoon the whole campground was inundated by ATVs. Loud, fume spewing machines that roamed the place practically from sunup to sundown. And when it wasn't ATV engines roaring, it was the multitude of generators polluting the entire area with noise and fumes. This is not the campground for those who want a peaceful, tranquil weekend communing with nature.
