For Chassahowitzka River Campground: Nice park, however, rustic with no concrete pads. Both 30 & 50 amp electric with water. Very clean bath house and laundry. Downside is that if you pay in person the office is located down at the river and boat launch area, away from campground. Parking at office area is very poor for anything but smallest RV since many people with kayaks flood the parking lot to launch. Best to reserve online rather than in person otherwise very nice park. Paid $64.05 with tax (with a 17’ Casita Trailer). Good Sams Club members get approx. 10% discount off that.

For Chassahowitzka River Campground: We spent one night during spring break 2021 and loved this park and campground. Nice space and trees between the sites. Very clean. Had cell coverage. The kayaking was amazing. Will definitely be back.

For Chassahowitzka River Campground: A nice little campground with an old Florida feel. Great for river enthusiasts who like kayaking, fishing, etc. Checkin was at the store near the boat ramp. A tight turn around for large RVs. We were greeted by a friendly staff member who even gave us her lighter to start our wood fire. We stayed only one night, but would have liked to stay longer to enjoy the river. Gravel, dirt site #6 which was tree covered and mostly level. Quiet at night. LOTS of dogs with some barking. Despite that, we would stay again to take advantage of the beautiful river. Overall a good experience.

For Chassahowitzka River Campground: We were only staying one night on our way from St. Augustine to Fort De Soto Park. We reserved a site online from their website with no problems. We were going to be arriving after 6pm so we tried to call on our way there, but got the answering machine with instructions to proceed to our site and follow up with check-in the next morning. That’s easy enough, just know that you won’t have the Bath house or WiFi passcodes. If we’d known that we would have kept trying to get someone to answer, though I didn’t have any luck with that the next morning. So the next morning we drove to the office at the little store down by the water (popular spot for kayaking). The staff was nice, had us sign in and gave us the codes. Check-out was at 1pm, so we decided to do laundry and those facilities were fine. Bath house was also fine, about like what you might expect at a state park except it appeared to have A/C. Our site was lightly graveled, with a picnic table and fire ring, full hookups, very level, and shaded a bit, mainly by pine trees. We were at site #40, directly across from the bath house. Cell coverage (Verizon) was good enough for streaming (since we didn’t have the WiFi code), and it’s located close to town. Also the next day we tried the WiFi and it do was adequate for streaming. More private showers and this easily would rate 4 stars.

For Chassahowitzka River Campground: Partially paved single lane road in and out of tiny parking lot where you register at boat ramp, office, snack shop. Pull-thru site was so narrow driving thru was impossible. Had to reposition RV several times to ensure slides had clearance. Water faucet was 3” above ground and had an unremovable filter that prevented using pressure regulator. And then we left.

For Chassahowitzka River Campground: Found the campground very adequate, somewhat private, quiet, very shady, clean bathrooms, a Florida, noncrowded, forestry place. River kayaking with clear springs was wonderful. Manatees were out in deeper water so we didn’t see them. Office is experiencing technology changeover and cannot handle many phone calls. I used email successfully.

For Chassahowitzka River Campground: Campground is in a beautiful area along the river. Countless manatees hang out in the wide spot in the river by the store/office and boat ramp. We saw at least a dozen in a few minutes, hanging out just below the surface and coming up to breathe occasionally. The campground itself is adequate, decent sized sites among trees but no screening from neighbors. Cost is exorbitant at $46 for an overnight, but most people there are long termers with presumably better rates. And thus begins my warnings to overnighters: besides the too high price, the management apparently doesn’t care to expend a bit of effort to cater to short term stays. We called while enroute to the campground for an hour and a half prior to their 5 pm closing, only to get a busy signal for each of 16 attempts. We arrived a few minutes before 5 pm, to be greeted with a locked office and no instructions for after hours arrivals. We drove through the campground until we encountered a helpful resident, who went to talk to someone, who then went to talk to someone else, and were eventually told to go to a house where the manager lived. Did that, and checked in on the kitchen table while little dogs yapped and jumped up. Were told that only 3 of the sites were set aside for short term, the rest were for the entire winter. Were told we could only stay one night, then had to “get out” the next day since the site was booked. Fine, that was our plan anyway. Had a peaceful night, then stopped by the office at 1030 the next morning to retrieve the piece of paper that had my personal info and credit card number from the night before, to ensure security. The office person rummaged through a sheaf of papers looking for mine, all the while hollering and bickering at the other gal working there. My form was not to be found, the ‘manager’ had not stopped in yet. So off I go back to her house, to be greeted again by little yappy dogs and swearing behind the door. Finally, a poor lady in a wheel chair opens and kindly finds my form, which I ran back down to the office to settle up so we could leave. That transaction again was peppered by speech that had me wondering if I was in a civilized land, and being reminded that I had to “get out” today, and capped off by a tirade against the previous day’s office person for not restocking the campground brochures. Which we didn’t need, since we were leaving. So, in summary my dear RVing friend, if you want to stay at this campground, be sure to arrive well before the 5 pm closing, and be prepared to deal with the type of people who watch and also attend the daytime TV show where people scream and throw chairs at each other on a stage. Your effort might be worth it, the manatees are civilized.
