Meggers

For Luna Sands Resort: Perfect for overnight stay. Mostly snowbirds from NY, Michigan, Minesota, etc. We stayed in Dec. Lots of permacampers. Super friendly staff! Clean park, small dog park area, little pool, new office/store, windy roads ( I can see large rigs having issues maneuvering) I guess there is a membership thing, we are not members and got a front site with water/electric only. Perfect for a 1 or 2 night stopover if it’s not your final destination.

Steve

For Luna Sands Resort: I give it three stars only because they allowed me to stay even though I wasn’t a member. We needed to pull in late at night. For $40 they put me in a 30 amp electric and water site. This is a members only grounds. Probably the same people who have come here for years. It is no where close to a resort. Other descriptions are accurate as far as the condition of roads and sites. The staff were very friendly. There were plenty of open sites including full hookup sites that they did not offer to me. Play ground has much to be desired. It worked for me in a pinch. I will go somewhere else next time.

Bob Drews

For Luna Sands Resort: This place was nice. The campsites were very close together. The staff was very friendly but sadly it is going private. As soon as we told management/sales that would not be buying their timeshare, their attitudes changed. If it were still public, we would go back, but we're not interested in buying an RV timeshare.... especially when we seen the attitude change.

FlamingoRoadTrip

For Luna Sands Resort: The campground recently changed owners and is now called the Luna Sands Resort. The campground is now owned by Travel Resorts of America. Campgrounds are increasingly changing their names to resorts in hopes of attracting a more upscale and higher paying clientele. Luna Sands is a great example of this trend. The campground appears to have been a KOA at one time (the KOA logo is still on the bottom of the pool), then became the Clark Family Campground, and is now Luna Sands Resort. There is nothing resort-like about this campground. We've stayed in RV resorts that are more closely aligned with the resort description...paved roads, paved or hard-packed gravel sites that are level, well-maintained buildings and grounds, evidence of recent and continuous improvements and infrastructure investments. Luna Sands is none of these. It's an old campground that hasn't seen much investment in the infrastructure or grounds in quite some time. There are fallen trees from Hurricane Irma that have not been cleaned up. There are derelict trailers and motor homes sitting on sites in the seasonal/permanent tenant areas. The bottom of the pool is dirty, showing footprints where people have previously walked. The roads and sites are mostly sand, not gravel. The concrete patios are old and crumbling. The roads are narrow with trees very close to the shoulders.

There is quite a bit of road noise and aircraft noise that is noticeable during the day...things quieted down at night. The campground is very dark at night, requiring a lot of concentration when driving on the roads after dark.

$50/night for a FHU site is pricey considering the state of the place...$25-30 would be a more reasonable price. The nearby state parks offer more value for the price if you can get a site (they were full when we booked our reservation).

We made the mistake of going into the Welcome Center and were ambushed by a Travel Resorts salesperson pitching memberships in their company ranging from $8,000 to $15,000 (up front). She was using Luna Sands as a great exmple of the quality and amenities offered in their other resorts...she has a very tough sales job if her prospective buyers have been in a true RV resort.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The public restrooms/showers were clean and orderly. Most of the picnic tables had a fresh coat of paint on them.

As an overnight stay, the campground is fine. However, it is not a place I would spend a week or an extended period at.

For Luna Sands Resort: Older campground with small roads & sites but the management is SO nice! They're very accommodating & put us in a site plenty big enough for our 40' RV. Our site was perfectly level but many would not have been. They even had a delicious home cooked breakfast in the rec hall that was very reasonably priced. Will definately stay here again. 40 minutes to the Daytona Speedway & beaches. Great area to ride your motorcycle. Quiet, woodsy campground.
