For Oscar Scherer State Park: I have been fortunate to stay at many of our great state parks..,
With Oscar Scherer you will not need to venture far beyond your physical campsite to find trash from previous campers.. we have now stayed at three different sites at Oscar Scherer.. and all have trash just beyond site.
It reminds of asking your child to clean his/her room and they push it all under the bed.. (throw trash out in Palmettos)
Also, bring a LONG water hose.. we had a 50', but needed longer, so rode up to Walmart (which is close) and purchased an additional 25'. Reason.. you share water with adjacent site.
If you're a bicycler.. note.. they close gate off Legend trail early.. so if returning from dinner.. may be a challenge to re-enter Park.. use main gate..
If you're a birder... there are many..
Some beautiful sites... some... not so ...

For Oscar Scherer State Park: Loved my stay here. Site was private, with lots of vegetation. Park was completely booked but really quiet. Note that park prohibits pets in waterfront sites, online reservation system identifies these as 60-80 but they are actually sites 68-98.

For Oscar Scherer State Park: Nice park, pull thru spots had total privacy. Which doesn't usually happen. Had plenty of room, close to town but felt out in woods. Staff helpful, answered phones till 8pm. Bathrooms we clean while we were there, except for mosquitos that followed you in.

For Oscar Scherer State Park: Like some other people posted noise is an issue. The showers were ok. Some of the shower buildings were closed. In the one at our end (50s sites) some one deficated on the floor making one of the two stalls unuseable. It stayed that way for a day. The camp sites are mostly private with some vegetation between. Some sites are dirt others are gravel. Our site was covered in poison oak . Not a bad place to stay but it could be so much more.

For Oscar Scherer State Park: This is a beautiful park and a well maintained campground. The sites are large and private and the bathrooms are clean, with good showers, nice dishwashing areas and a clean washing machine. There is a lot to do here: miles of hiking trails, extensive biking trail, bird watching, kayaking, staffed Nature Center with daily activities, etc. It is also well located close to Sarasota, Venice and beaches. We came for a night and stayed for a week.

The Travelin' Gal
For Oscar Scherer State Park: October 2015: We stayed here during the week. Our spot was large and nice. Restrooms were clean. The best benefit of this park for us was free wifi Internet at the screened in shelter by the little swimming lake. The park was quiet. Staff was nice. It was a great location at a reasonable price to explore Sarasota and The Ringling Museum and St. Armand's Circle. We've stayed here a number of times as we have family in the area. We've always been pleased with our stay. One time we even launched our tandem kayak and traveled out in the Intracoastal!
