For Horseshoe Lake State Park: Stopped here passing thru St. Louis. Sites are only $8 (cash only) and super well maintained. Half of the camp loop backs up to woods and looks out on some pretty unspectacular farm fields but the back half is wooded and spaced out well. Tons of firewood laying around which was nice too. Definitely not the most exciting place I’ve ever camped but for the money and proximity to a city it’s pretty hard to beat.

For Horseshoe Lake State Park: Looked like the kind of spot I liked but the mosquitoes were so bad I couldn’t do anything. Ended up getting chiggers when I knelt down filling my water tank.

For Horseshoe Lake State Park: My kind of camping. Dry camp with pit toilets. Very quiet and spaced well. Rustic and peaceful. Narrow road in but paved. Sites are on grave/ grass. It was pouring and the sites were very wet. Lots of birds and Mosquitoes.

For Horseshoe Lake State Park: Arrived mid day on May 3, and the gates were closed with no signage. Not sure why they weren't open. Looked like an excellent venue if we had been able to use it.
