For Lake Afton Park: I have no idea how this park could be rated well. We couldn’t figure out where the sites were. There is no site map and no help from the park managers. Not nearly enough room to maneuver a 35’ TT. FINALLY JUST GAVE UP.

Our Epic Field Trip
For Lake Afton Park: This is a nice county park with numerous sites around a small lake. The overall park is kept clean, although some site groupings seemed a little trashed. There's supposed to be a stay limit, but there seemed to be several longer term set-ups. Site selection is first-come first-served, and sites get pretty limited on the weekends. If you get lucky, you may get a site with a view of the lake. Great trees and walking/biking paths throughout the park. There are limited sites with 50 amp service. The camp store is stocked with convenient items. Most sites are on gravel or grass areas. The grassy sites are on good solid surface. You're within 30 minutes of Wichita from this park. www.ourepicfieldtrip.com

For Lake Afton Park: Great lakeside camping! $14 for an electric site which I thought was a great price. You pay electronically on the touch screen outside and its super easy. None of the sites are labeled and you can pick any site you’d like. It was a bit intimidating pulling up with no sense of direction but every spot seemed to have a great view of the lake and plenty of room. The bathrooms aren’t as nice as some other places but it was fine for a night. Wish the shower was completely enclosed.

For Lake Afton Park: Pretty little lake and grass, price was right. $12 for the night. But first power post was bad, did find a good one. All shady spots were taken. Bathrooms were very dirty.

For Lake Afton Park: We have stayed here four or five times while visiting family in Wichita. We've stayed in the winter during snowstorms and in the summer heat. It's a very minimalist type of place, but probably the best location to camp in the greater west Wichita area. There are only 10 or 20 sites with electricity and water, the rest are electricity only. The few sites with water are not that great, basically a line in a big field. We have usually just use an electric site. There are electric posts all over the place around the entire lake. There are no designated ways to park around the electric post, so you can face north, south, east or west as you pull up to one in a location that strikes your fancy. Many of them are in the shade or have a great view of the lake.
There are no rules as far as I can tell and the lake is beautiful. There are several water spigots throughout the park that you could use to fill your freshwater tank. They have a dump station on site as well as a little general store with fishing and camping items. Overall, a wonderful place to camp if you don't need anything fancy and enjoy hanging out at the lake. There are several nice playgrounds that you can camp relatively close to you. In the winter, the lake sometimes freezes over and you can have the whole thing to yourself and listen to geese on the ice or water patches to lull you to sleep. For $10 a night, it's one of the best kept secret in Kansas.
