For Hillman Ferry: Unfortunately, this wasn’t a positive experience for us. It’s a noisy, crowded place, and the employee at the registration window was very rude. Very disappointing.

For Hillman Ferry: Wonderful place to stay. Peaceful, Clean, and the Most Friendly People. Rec areas, fish jumping, 24 hr ice and firewood. Would definitely stay again.

For Hillman Ferry: Absolutely loved it here! I camped in a basic site, tent only. It was $12/night and I stayed for 2 nights. Very shaded, perfect spots to hang a hammock. Tons of fishing in the area (obviously) and hiking too. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They have clean showers with plenty of hot water and costs $2 to do a load of laundry. They seemed to have plenty of first come first serve availability in early May.

For Hillman Ferry: As described by others. My additions would be that the access roads are narrow, tree-lined, and twisting. Care is required for large RVs. The actual site access, however, has usually been lined up well with the roads. The sites are heavily shaded, so satellite access is not commonly available even with a portable dish. We found both AT&T and Verizon service to be spotty and fading in and out. A final note: the Forest Service interpretation of the Golden Access pass results in a six dollar per night credit for any site - 50% off the price of a no-services site.

For Hillman Ferry: We could not have picked a nicer weekend for tent camping nor could we have chosen a better campground for our first visit to this area. First, it started with some wonderful help from the staff at the campground itself. They suggested some great sites for us to choose from as we are tent campers but do require electric to run my CPAP machine. You have to be assigned a site when you arrive but if you find a better one, you simply go back to the office and they will swap you out in no time.

We asked about firewood but unfortunately they were out and we're waiting for a delivery at any moment. It was nearing dusk and temps were going into the mid 40's so we needed wood. Two of the forest service employees offered to bring us some of there own while another told of a place in a nearby town where a guy had good, seasoned firewood. We opted to give this a try knowing that if it didn't pan out, we could get wood from the other two employees. A 25 minute ride took us directly to a site where a local stacks wood in piles for $20. It's all on the honor system. Put your money in a locked container and take one pile of wood. It was a very large stack of oak. Perhaps 50 pieces nicely cut and split. We returned to the campsite and ironically were following the flatbed truck carrying the firewood to the campground for their store.

We had a nice site near the beach area with only a few neighbors nearly. Good fire ring, clean bathrooms nearby, and a nice clean shower house within walking distance. We drove through the campground, which is vast, and noticed very few sites that would not be very accommodation to our tastes. Only about 40% of the sites are reservable online with the rest being first come - first serve. We will definitely return and will do so on a Thursday so we get the pick of premium sites before the weekend crowds arrive on Friday.

For Hillman Ferry: We were looking for a campground in the area where we could stop and catch up on work for a few days. We're self contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We stayed M-F in late September.

This is a large and very nice campground. There are 5 loops, each with different hook up combinations, proximity to Kentucky Lake and site density. We stayed in loop C where the sites seemed relatively more spacious. There was a large variety of sites - large, small, lakeside, hillside, and different hookups - and all were gravel. The sites were arranged nicely to allow for lake views and make them feel more private and were well maintained. There's no wifi. ATT and Verizon coverage was good.

There's a swimming beach on Loop A, fish cleaning shed on Loop B and boat ramps on Loops A and B. There's a small store near the entrance for cold drinks (no alcohol), camping supplies and fishing gear which also rents bicycles and a few toys (no boats). The drive through LBL is pretty and we found the Golden Pond Visitor Center informative.

For Hillman Ferry: We spent one night here in our travel trailer on our way to Colorado and liked the campground. Shady, right on Kentucky Lake, very friendly check in staff. It has a small store up near the entrance, but we didn't go in it. Bathrooms look nice on the outside, but again we did not use them. Beautiful place actually. We recommend it. There does to appear to be a lot of long term campers here, since the place does allot some campsites for two to nine month stays, but their sites were clean and neat.
