For Split Rock Creek State Park: Good for overnight stay. Lake is more like a pond, but a lot of families kayaking and fishing. Bathrooms clean with hot water. Middle of farmland. Bring in all supplies.

For Split Rock Creek State Park: Out-of-staters should be aware that it’s very expensive to camp at this little lake in an agricultural area. I used it as a stop for Pipestone National Monument, but was not paying attention to all the fees that add up. First, $7 reservation fee. Then $29 a night. Then you arrive, and there’s a $7 per day vehicle fee. So one night is $43. The lake is chock full of carp. The bathroom is getting old and grimy, but there are hot water showers. You can see turtles basking in the sun, Baltimore orioles in the big trees near the lake, and surrounding farmland with meadowlarks.

For Split Rock Creek State Park: A very nice little campground! There is a nice blend of open and secluded/private sites. Our site accommodated our 32' TT nicely and there were at least a half dozen others that would work for us too. The shower/restroom facility is very clean and more than adequate for a campground of this size. While small, the lake is very beautiful and I understand the fishing can be quite good. I counted at least 3 docks including a nice size fishing pier.

The only "negatives" would be the following:
* There's not a lot for kids to do. We came as a couple only and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet.
* The campground (and some sites) are immediately adjacent to a road. After a while we didn't notice and it wasn't a bother at all.
* The BNSF RR has a fairly busy rail line close to the park. The trains run through the area tooting away fairly frequently but again, after a while we didn't notice and it wasn't a bother.

All in all this park was a very pleasant surprise for us having never been here. I'd highly recommend it and it will become a regular part of our campground rotation.

For Split Rock Creek State Park: Best sites are along the water. Sites along the back loop are right next to a road with trucks going by. Also a train goes by about 3 times a night. Park is pretty but very small. Water was pretty murky for swimming but you can rent kayak and canoes on the very small lake. Pipestone National Monument 20 minutes away is phenomenal. Bath and shower house was nice and clean. Hot water! Not much to do in this park. Staff are very friendly and efficient.
