For Oregon Inlet Campground - Cape Hatteras National Seashore: I stayed here a week in six different campsites both electric and non-electric all gotten upon arrival the first week of August. It’s really hot and humid here but there is always a breeze and during the evening quite a brisk breeze so The heat becomes tolerable. All sites are level.The walk to the beach across the dunes can be long & strenuous but easy If using ATV Road near the C loop. Beach is not very nice…nothing like the beautiful beach near the main pier in town.I chose to use the easy beach access near the Park maintenance headquarters about 4 mi north of campground. I downloaded movies in a public event parking lot on Highway 158 just north of the Nags Head outlet mall & got nice groceries @ the Fresh Market further north, (all on the west side)

For Oregon Inlet Campground - Cape Hatteras National Seashore: We were looking for a place to stay that would be convenient to explore the northern Outer Banks. We're self-contained in our 25 foot motor home and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We stayed weeknights in mid-June. This is a pretty campground nestled in the sand dunes 12 miles south of Nags Head. There are about 100 sites, half with water/electric, arrayed around 3 loops. The sites are relatively long and narrow and paved. There are no trees for shade or privacy. There are bath houses with outdoor showers and potable water in each loop. There's a dump station across highway 12 at the marina. At the time of our visit, there was potable water at the dump station, however, no hose. There's good ATT and Verizon cell coverage. The beach is a short walk through the dunes from the CG. We enjoyed the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk.

For Oregon Inlet Campground - Cape Hatteras National Seashore: Beautiful spot in dunes. Short walk to beach on E side. Sadly the other side (W) abuts the road so there is traffic noise all night and day long. Centrally located to Wright brothers, bodie island light, swimming beach. We stayed in tent / A loop with small teardrop trailer.

For Oregon Inlet Campground - Cape Hatteras National Seashore: I have mixed feelings about this place. We stayed on site B23. The grounds are pretty, some are nice and grassy, others not so much, those are full of cactus and spiked briars, don’t let your children run around barefoot. Sites are a bit on the small side. We had a 30ft RV and could barely get our TV parked on the designated pad. No parking in the “grass”! One vehicle per space unless your in a tent. There is free extra parking and a dump station across the street at the fishing center/coast guard station. Just get a parking tag from the camp rangers, aka camp nazis. Rules here are strictly enforced, be on guard. The showers and bathhouse is adequate and in decent shape. The beach is a 5 min walk away over the dunes. Unfortunately, it is right beside a vehicle access ramp. So, unless you mind sharing it with jeeps and jacked up trucks then I would take the family elsewhere to swim. It looks dirty and dug out from all the tire tracks. Not a very clean place. There is a really cool shipwreck along the southern shore, about 0.7 miles from ramp 4. If you need a good home base for excursions along the OBX shoreline, then this is the place. If your looking for a camp&beach experience then go elsewhere.

For Oregon Inlet Campground - Cape Hatteras National Seashore: Sites can be small. You can reserve site, but they are not assigned. Some trouble with reservation system. 13 electric water, rest are dry camping. Tent sites. Bath houses with flush toilets and warm showers. Walk a bit to the beach. ORV permit $50, surf fishing $14.Grass paved sites, level. Always crowded, come early. Friendly staff. Road noise. Beautiful campground. Bug spray, mosquitos can be fierce. Sun is strong. We stayed as long as we were allowed.

For Oregon Inlet Campground - Cape Hatteras National Seashore: Just finished staying six nights in the ”A” loop, tents-only section. Great proximity to Nag’s Head and Coquina Beach is only 2 miles. Coquina is lifeguarded from 9-5 and I would highly recommend swimming there. It was not overly busy and no vehicles are allowed on the beach there. The beach is still an easy walk over small dunes from the campsites and we went there at night to hunt ghost crabs, etc. There are both grassy and sandy sites. The sites are a bit close together, but this is more just a feeling because there are no trees to create separation. Expect that winds could be high so be prepared with good tent ground stakes. We saw a couple collapsed tents but winds were up to 30mph one day. Hot showers are nice but keep in mind there is no electricity.

For Oregon Inlet Campground - Cape Hatteras National Seashore: What a great find. You are never sure what you will find when you come to a new camp ground and we were glad we read the other reviews and decided to stay here. The sites are good sized and the electric sites have new power/water stations that are lighted. The location is great as well, being just far enough out to the commercial area of nags head but nit so far south to make traveling back and forth tiring. Highly recommend this campground and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again in the future.
