Wandering Sandals
For Cheoah Point Recreation Area: Stay at Cheoah Point Recreation Area Campground for $15/night at primitive tent/trailer sites, we considered this a serious bargain. Our site#5 is spacious with plenty of shades and far enough to other sites to provide good privacy. Some sites are doubled up, so unless you know your neighbor really well. Some cabins offered with good Santeetlah lake views. No dump station in campground, but with 3 bathrooms clustered around the campground as well as water spigots make our stay convenient. From our site, the bathroom is just around-the-corner. Functional bathrooms with 2 hot shower stalls, and 2 toilet stalls. Exhaust fans were in toilet stalls and heat lamps on shower stalls. Bugs always present in all stalls due to perpetual open door practice, this maybe a turn off for some. Beach or shore access from the campsites can be very steep; best left to mountain goat. Nice swimming beach with picnic tables and grassy lawn just short driving distance away, but pooch is not allowed here even in picnic area. Boat/kayak launch ramp and pier is short driving distance away and pooch allowed here, except on 1 trail. WiFi is nonexistence at camp sites, and weak LTE is a big turn off for us, seriously? In this day-and-age? OTA digital TV is 3 channels. The outdoor activities available here were the salvation of the day; class 1-3 rapids Nantahala River run, kayak/canoe on lake Santeetlah, Bald River Falls (drive to) and other waterfalls (hike to) all around the Nantahala National Forest. Roads to campground designed for minis, as standard-sized truck or decent-sized trailer will eats up a portion of opposing traffic. Would we stay again? Maybe.
