For Sun Outdoors Association Island: First to clear up a few misconceptions. This is no longer a KOA. It has been gobbled up by Sun Outdoors a mega company whose purpose is to acquire RV parks in premiere locations around the country. This one is in such a prime location being right on the lake. Also it does not have the 1300 sites mentioned in a previous post but about 1/3 of that. Also it not all that far away from civilization being a 30 minute drive to Watertown NY which has every big name box store you can imagine plus all major restaurant chain and entertainment venues, boutiques and shops. The quaint and historic (War of 1812) town of Sackets Harbor is a 20 minute drive and has both a State Park and battlefield with a history of the British attack on the town. Also plenty of lakeside eateries right on the harbor all which were dog friendly. A lot of roadside fresh produce farm stands in season, some also selling cheap firewood.
With regard to the campground the sites are close but not on top of each other. The waterfront ones are expensive ($100+) but ours was one row in and still provided a view @ $83. This private park has, at best 5 months to operate at a profit point. All perimeter roads seem to have been recently paved with asphalt, but the sites are still gravel with most fairly level. There are plenty of old growth trees and a lot of green grass throughout. A lot of seasonal rigs, all in good shape. Plenty of families, kids and dogs but noise was minimal and actually quiet at night. Restrooms and showers relatively clean for such a large gathering. The best bet for both space, privacy and cleanliness is the individual handicapped bathroom. Did not use the snack and ice cream but it was open post pandemic. Camped for 2 nights in a Sprinter Class C pulling a Mini Cooper solo with my dog. Would return if again in the area.

For Sun Outdoors Association Island: Mike and Cheryl here. We have a 44 foot Class A RV. Here is my review of KOA Association Island Campground. The campground is off any main road by several miles, but the roads are all paved. The road leading to the island is narrow and hilly. The bridge to the island is one lane. The campground is not near any town, so bring what you need. The road inside the park mainly gravel and is in good condition. The office was open and the people were friendly. During the virus, they wanted to come out the the RV and talk through the window. The store was open, but they would only allow us to walk up to a window and ask for what we needed. The campground is large and most of the campers are transient RVers. They have pull thrus, but the best sites are pull in or back in sites. Most sites can be used in either way.
Most are 50 amp full hook up. Most are gravel sites, but a few have a cement pad. All have a fire pit. We had site G02 which is the sunset side of the island. The view was great. being on the water, looking out on Lake Ontario. It looks like most sites are level. All the green sunset sites are nice and all the blue sunrise sites are nice. If I were to do the blue sunset sites, I would choose sites between H20 - H28. The bathhouse and laundry was not open. They have one pool which was not open. They have a restaurant and ice cream shop but was not open. . So here is why I gave only 3 stars. Everything seemed run down and in need of an upgrade. Even if they would have been open, we would not have used any of them. Additionally, the camp sites on the inner part of the island are not in the best of shape and seem neglected. They have garbage and recycle curb side pick up. They have Wifi which was very good. There is no cable. We could pick up several channels using over air antenna. There is no road noise at all. Although we loved our site and the view, I do not believe we would go back.

Waypoint
For Sun Outdoors Association Island: Nice campground and friendly staff. Huge campground. Level spots. Great views, we were on the sunrise side, but subset side would be great. Only downside is that there is nothing close by, all attractions, restaurants, museums are about an hour away. But if you are looking to just stay at the campsite it would be great. Stayed 3 nights in a 34 MH with toad.

For Sun Outdoors Association Island: We stayed here on two cool blustery days and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Large breakers rolling in from all directions gave extra ambience to the area.
This is a well run park in a unique environment. Spotless facilities.
Would stay again.

Dave Grunfelder
For Sun Outdoors Association Island: We are here in the middle of August and it's gorgeous. It's hot, but that's what AC is for. There are many sites, but not much shade. You can face either the east or the west coast of the island. The sunrise and sunsets are absolutely beautiful. The closest sites to the water were way out of my price range, but if you get the 3rd row, it's $35.00. You can't beat that with a stick!
Especially at a KOA. You can see the water from any site you choose. Lots of different types of campers and RVs, so you can dream about upgrading. Great place for dogs, also.
We have a 30 foot class A.
