For Iroquois R V Park and Campground: I would have liked to give this park four stars, since it has the potential. I've stayed here several times over the years. Never had a "bad" stay. I don't use activities or facilities much. With the virus going on, just about everything is closed or impacted in some way. So here is what I found on 8/1/2020.
* Management: Lady at window was very pleasant and eager to talk. I suspect she's going as mad with isolation as we all are :) On the phone, she was very helpful, and allowed me to pick a site from the map.
* Roads: rough but easily passable. (It's hard to keep roads perfect in four-season areas, since the temperature changes attack them.)
* Pool: Open. Not sure about the safety of a bunch of folks with variable use of masks. How do you mask up in the pool anyway?
* Restrooms, Laundry: Didn't visit or use
* Store: Closed.
* Site: clean and everything worked. Water, elec and sewer. No cable that I saw.
* Firepit: Empty on arrival. $4 produced an on-site delivery of a good bundle of pine wood. Hot and fast burning, but plenty. We left over four sticks.
The site areas are nicely tree covered. Flat, easy to level. Grassy areas between sites. Very sandy soil, and in high foot traffic areas on sites (like in front of where the door is) are sandy. Wipe your feet :)
There is a large pond covered with algae. I mean, covered. It doesn't seem to have bred much in the way of mosquitoes.
Local area: Some tourist stuff, like Ausable Chasm, but may be closed this summer.
Restaurants we visited:
* Livengoods Brewpub (near Northway Exit). I had an amber ale that was very good. Pizza: Cheese and sauce are good, and an interesting assortment of toppings and combinations. We visited twice. On other visit, I had a steak burrito that was really excellent. One more thing: Creme Brulee!
* Green Acres Bakery and Restaurant: On 22, north of Peru, on left. Good breakfast. Homemade bread.
* Hungry Bear (Plattsburgh). Our go-to-breakfast place. Excellent food and service. Usually bread and rice pudding to die for. Call ahead for this though, since they are on limited offerings due to virus.
* Pleasant Corner Restaurant (Keesville, Exist 34) coupled with Big Daddy BBQ. Excellent lunch. Worth a visit.
* Shopping in Peru: TOPS market, Aubuchon (sp) Hardware, Old Independent Hardware (yes, one of those), Kinney Drugs, Laundromat, Stewarts, Mobil, Pasquale Italian Restaurant and Pizza.
* Shopping in Plattsburgh: Everything you could want, both chain and independent. Also, a plethora of restaurants.
I haven't tried the other campground at exit 35, but will probably do a drivethrough next time I'm at Iroquois.
