For Duttona Trailer Park: Duttona “Family Campground, Coyne Road, Wallacetown Ontario – the name does not reflect the park. The word “Family†is not a true picture of what this park stands for.
I, personally, camped at this park as a teenager and returned 10 years ago to a lot that was in the family for more then 40 + years. The first 8 years were amazing, the camaraderie in this park was overwhelming, we were a small community that took care of each other. Each weekend was full of excitement when we entered the park, we were going to spend time with family and friends.
The moral changed in the last 2 years – some would say that COVID was part of the problem and yes to some degree I’m sure it was BUT from my experience COVID was just a crutch that was used. Whether we were in a pandemic or not the changes that have occurred in the last 2 years have NOTHING to do with COVID. The lack of respect to the campers, the plain rudeness to the campers and the lack of compassion to the elderly long-term campers was heart wrenching.
I understand that running this campground is a business, as such the NEW business owners are not there to make friends BUT is it too much to ask that they, the NEW business owners, at least be friendly, after all the campers are the bread and butter of the business.
Numerous changes have taken place in the last 2 years, here are a few:
Public washrooms/showers closed and are still closed.
Entrance is gated with key cards BUT a camper cannot let in a service vehicle (ie: police or ambulance) for any type of an emergency.
Suggested to get rain barrels and utilize that water to keep your lot looking clean.
The laundry facility is being converted to a Snack Shack.
The emergency phone for the pool is in the SHOPPE (ie: the Office) approximately 100ft away.
The pool was closed on the long weekend in August for a personal event.
They fired the Social Committee because they wanted control of the events.
Some of the seasonal lots do not have any sewer hook-ups.
On some lots the sewage is seeping up into the grass – campers (with children) had to wear rubber boots because they were walking in feces.
Some had issues getting water to their trailer, 3 hoses hooked together and spanned over 3 lots and now they have water – told by owners that their only obligation was to make sure the spigot was onsite.
Hydro is very outdated – advertise 30-amp service, please check the box before you plug in.
You are restricted as to how you decorate your lot.
Do not get caught laughing after 10 pm while sitting around the fire – too loud and noisy.
No amenities except a pool, old swings, and old monkey bars at the park. (Not up to CSA standards)
Campers who were there for 30, 40 + years were evicted or left the park because their happy camper spot was not happy anymore. The utter disrespect for long term campers was so disheartening to watch and experience. I truly believe that they wanted the long-term campers to leave, they made it very difficult for any of us to enjoy our time there.
If you are looking for a place to unwind, relax and have a fun filled season or even a weekend I WOULD NOT recommend Duttona “Family†Campground.
