For Viento State Park: A nice small park with mature trees and terraced sites on a hillside overlooking the Columbia River. The sites near the river are great but not many. The downfall to get only 3 stars is the location sandwiched between interstate 86 and an active freight railway. It's an awful place for a campground but it is the nature of the Columbia River valley on the Oregon side....the interstate runs along the entire gorge and so does the railway with little space between the river and the rocky cliffs and hills to the south. The noise was ok inside our ClassB for sleeping but would be intolerable in a tent. We only stayed one night.... look at options across the river in Washington State - no interstate, no rail.

For Viento State Park: This would be a nice campground if it were not for the noise. All RVs must camp in the North Loop. One side of the North Loop borders I-84; you can see and hear every vehicle that goes by. The other side of the North Loop is adjacent to busy train tracks; you can see and hear every train car. Since there is a crossing, each train blows a whistle multiple times. Trains are erratic but I would estimate 20-25 per day, including a few at night (with reduced frequency). We are in a motorhome with dual-pane windows and the noise still bothers us. It’s hard to relax here.

For Viento State Park: Decent for a night or two. Trains are annoying, seems like they go by every three hours or so. Shaded by trees and close to the river. Reasonably priced.

For Viento State Park: Easy access to the Columbia River. Many sail riders come here. Not the quietest of places as the train will come thru every few hours. Freeway noise not too bad, but heck, the river is close. No dump, but free one about 6 miles away. 80% shade. Clean and nice showers.
