For Area A - Cowans Gap State Park: I really want to like this state park, but it has some very serious flaws. First is the information about the sights are not accurate at all. We have a 34’ 5th wheel and we could not get it in the spot we reserved, even though it was advertised as accepting an RV up to 50’. Too many trees in the way and an extreme angle in to the site. Would have needed a miracle to get that thing in there. Luckily the park leaves a few sites with easier access open in case this happens to an unsuspecting camper. If it wasn’t for that, we would have been stuck heading home. I promise you that this happens often. Furthermore, the main road through the park is winding with very sharp turns at high angles in several spots. We almost damaged our truck and trailer trying to get in to our first spot and just driving around and exiting the campground! Second, the dump station lane is very tight and the water hose had a spray nozzle on it so you could not attach it to a normal black tank flush inlet. To top it off the dump station is at the park entrance, so you have to exit your site, subject yourself to the steep crazy turns again and almost completely exit the park again to dump. Everyone trying to do this blocks the main access road to the campground, so if you are just showing up to camp, you get to wait in line while everyone dumps before you can get to your site. Makes for way too much headache, given the $35 a night price tag. Other than that it is a sleepy park with a nice small lake, but it is best suited for someone with a tear drop camper, or if you are seeking quiet relaxation, as apposed to outdoor activities.
