For Hunting Island State Park: First week in April, no seeum midgets horrible (early afternoon). Campground damaged by hurricane, sites not level, no shade, potholes, poorly maintained for being so expensive. S.C. state parks do not allow any refunds with early departure.

For Hunting Island State Park: This is a really nice State Park. It’s quiet and quite enjoyable on weekdays. Weekends the crowd changes to families and weekend warriors, so a little different feel. Campsites are all a little different sized, depending on location of trees, but most of them are decent size. Roads are narrow, but one way, and some major potholes, so definitely need to take it slow. Nice, natural beach just a short stroll away.

For Hunting Island State Park: What a nice park. Good campsites bathroom and shower facilities clean and well maintained. The campground was badly damaged two years ago by a hurricane and lost all the Oceanside campsites. Staff was very friendly and helpful. This would be a 5 star campground review if the beach were returned to usability. Regardless, it’s still one of my favorite state parks in the U.S. and I will be returning again in the near future.

For Hunting Island State Park: Beautiful park, we very much enjoyed our stay. Everyone, especially the Park Ranger, helped us newbie campers out tremendously. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Paved roads, gravel sites. Bathrooms were surprisingly very clean and located within a reasonable distance from camping sites. Has showers and playgrounds for kids. Quiet time is at 10pm and everyone near us complied. No alcoholic beverages allowed is another plus for serenity. Fishing pier currently damaged from last Hurricane. Highly recommend.

For Hunting Island State Park: **Please Note**. There is a Hunting Island State Park AND a Huntington Beach State Park. I wanted reservations at Hunting Island, however, when I arrived I found out I had booked Huntington Beach. The staff was very nice and said this happens often. They found us a spot for one night. This is a beautiful state park and we are disappointed that we can't stay as long as we had planned. Just a heads up to make sure you double check your booking.

For Hunting Island State Park: This is a really picturesque state park and very close to the beach. There are two sections. The first is closest to the beach with sand or pine needle surfaces. The second is farther from the beach and mostly gravel surfaces. The bathrooms were clean and not a far walk for any site. Not a lot of shopping close by. It's an 11 mile drive to the nearest grocery store. Some small restaurants in the vicinity but not a lot of choices. I would definitely stay here again. Judging by the proximity to the ocean, I wonder how long this park will be here. A big storm could devastate it. Enjoy it while you can. It's worth it.

For Hunting Island State Park: Upon our arrival, we were enamored by picturesque scenery. We were hostilely greeted by the staff at the camp store to check in. It was very apparent she had better things to do than help us ( I had reserved and paid in advanced, we were just trying to ensure they knew we were there). The site was oddly placed, but we managed. Campers were friendly enough. Then we went to check out the coastline. It is gorgeous BUT not a place to take little ones to swim---our fault for not researching this further, but was somewhat of a disappointment. The next morning we went for a walk on the beach then headed back to the site as it started raining. Within 2 hours our whole site was under water! At this point we decided to cut our trip short. When packing up camp we found that there was only ONE trash collection area in the whole property ( but about 10 dog poop collection points?) Bizarre. There was plenty of ranger coverage- saw the trucks drove by at least 10 times during our short stay, so more trash collection points doesn't seem to be a staffing issue......Then we asked for a refund due to our site being fundamentally flooded and were met with strong resistance. Pretty sure even though they said we'd get our money back---we won't. We originally planned to stay for 2 nights but cut it short due to flooding.
Nature Center staff were wonderful, campground staff need some assistance with customer service skills.
