For Posey Lake Campground: We were looking for a place to camp near Escalante yet at higher elevation to escape the heat. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed on a weeknight in early June in our 25 foot MH.
This is a pleasant, small CG (23 sites) at 8,800 feet (at least 10 degrees cooler than town). It's 16 miles from UT-12, with most of the drive climbing a maintained, unpaved road with good signage. (Always check road conditions as they can change quickly with rain.) The campground loop is steep with one switchback. The sites are a mix of private and close, most are shaded with tall ponderosa pines, most need some leveling. There's no wifi, no ATT or Verizon coverage.
There's a small lake at the CG with fishing and picnicking. There's no swim beach, people were swimming off their boats. There're 2 short hikes leaving from the CG - Posey Lookout has a nice view. There are many miles of dirt roads and hiking trails in the area noted in the Escalante District Dixie National Forest map available at the Visitor Center.
