For Newport News Park: We stayed in Loop B since it has 50amps. I’m antisocial so I wish they had online booking with site pictures. But the person I talked to was very nice in helping me book our site. The sites are very nicely spaced but some would be really hard to get level on. If you go in the fall I would highly suggest a leaf blower. Laundry was nice and clean. 3 washer/3dryers. We didn’t check out the bathhouses. 4 stars for no sewer hook ups at site and one dump station. But we’ll definitely stay again.

For Newport News Park: This is a large, lovely and convenient park with lake, campground, hiking trails and lots more. We were there in February and practically had the place to ourselves. The campground is beautiful with lots of mature trees. We selected site A-6 for its proximity to the bathroom and view of the lake. The bathrooms were okay. They seemed clean (did not use showers) but could use a bit of maintenance and sprucing. The camp office/store is very modern and has a nice laundry facility. The employees were very welcoming and friendly. My only real issue with our campsite was the noise. We were VERY close to I-64 and truck traffic was heavy all night. This is probably not as much of an issue on-season when the trees are full of leaves, or if you choose a site further away from the highway. We paid $34 for a site with water and electric. Not a bad price for the location, which is close to Yorktown and Jamestown.

For Newport News Park: This campground has best of both worlds: spacious woodsy sites near water—but only minutes from great historical sightseeing—Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestowne. Beautiful walking, biking trails—adequate bathrooms and showers, attentive staff. Bathhouse and sites could be a little better maintained, but overall a really nice campground and not terribly expensive—we paid $32 a night—will worth the proximity to all the historical ambiance. Also boating and fishing available.

Just a Camper

For Newport News Park: Electric only sites (loop F) are only 20 amps, we were told 30 so beware! Also no fresh water at the dump station, so we had to fill up our water at a full hookup site. (Luckily we were there when it was quiet). The showers were dirty, obviously not yet cleaned after the Memorial Day weekend, smelled like urine. The paint is peeling everywhere. Considering what we paid ( almost $40) it was overpriced. Huge piles of leaves everywhere. The positive is the proximity to colonial Jamestowne and Williamsburg.

JM

For Newport News Park: A very nice park! Our site was private and large and quiet. Bathrooms and showers were clean and decent. Laundry and office area was super nice. We enjoyed the many hiking and biking trails around. Be sure to see the one that shows you the spot where Washington had his headquarters! Very convenient location to see the historical sites around. Only 7 miles to Yorktown and 15 to Jamestown from here. $36 per night and worth it. Be sure to check out the visitors center down the road and have them tell you where to go and what to see around here.

For Newport News Park: If you have difficulties finding a dump station in Hampton Roads area, this is a good bet. Entrance to campground is just off I-64. Stop at modern building and pay $15 (included if you camp) and yer good to go. I can't say enough good about Newport News Park, the staff is friendly and helpful, the hardwood forest is fantastic, the area is super-historic for American colonial and rrrrevolutionary times, ... this is a gem of a park.

Mahja

For Newport News Park: Excellent campground! We have been driving up and down the east coast n our 25' RV and each night we've stayed at a different campground. Everything from outer banks to Charlestown and Florida. And this campground is by far the nicest. We were on the lake and felt like we had the entire campground to ourselves. High trees provide loads of shade and site next to us was far enough away that you had to look for them to find them. So we had a water view out the back and beautiful forest on every other side. There is a 5 mile bike trail thru forest which is well groomed and shaded. You can be biking and come across George Washingtons house! What's incredible is that you are surrounded by history. Place is so well maintained and the scenery is breathtaking! Absolutely the nicest RV campsite we've ever had the pleasure of staying at. Great job by the National Historic Park crew!!
