For Thompsons West End Park: Right on Lake Superior, economical at $27/night first come, no reservations, 30/50 amp service. Water nearby to fill tank. Dump station near front. Open and level sites. Quiet mid Sept on weekend. Used as a base to explore Madeline Island. We were site 39 only because 36-44 ( first row with best view of LS) were not available, 36 -37 may be seasonals.
Clean, well kept city park with nearby trails.
I could definitely stay for a week if had the time.
Our cable didn’t work so couldn’t use. WiFi was in and out.

Just a camper
For Thompsons West End Park: $25 for a nice site with electric. Fresh water and dump also available. $0.75 for a 3 mi Ute shower. The camp is a mixture of seasonal, long term and short term. On a weekday it was quiet. Two bars LT E T-mobile.

For Thompsons West End Park: We were looking for a place to stay that would enable us to explore the Bayfield Peninsula and the Apostle Islands. We're self-contained and don't use the facilities. We stayed on weeknights in August.
This campground is a gem. The sites were large. Most had views of Lake Superior. It is self-service with a host - we didn't meet the host. There's good Verizon and ATT coverage. There's free wifi with variable speeds, depending upon time of day. Most sites have electric and there's an artesian well (standard hookup available) and dump station near the entrance/exit.
There's a swimming beach and marina a short walk from the campground. The Washburn Lakefront Walking Trail is 1.4 miles between West End and Memorial Campgrounds and includes several beaches, marinas and historical interpretive signs. It's a 6 blocks to the IGA for food/beverages. It's 13 miles to Bayfield for the Apostle Island cruises. Roads have good shoulders for road biking.

Celebrating Life
For Thompsons West End Park: $25/night. This campground is a great hidden treasure. Campsites are large?we easily fit our truck, 5th wheel and jeep; as well as extra space for visitors vehicles. Other than small pads for camper, the campground is total grass.
Each site has a picnic table. 30 and 50 amps available. Sites are electric only?no water or sewer at the campsites. There is a dump station at the entrance of the campground. There are 2 water faucets to fill fresh water tank before pulling into site.
Campground is directly on the Lake Superior.
Asphalt roads through the campground. Some of the corners are tight, however we easily managed to get our Big Rig into a site. I would suggest disconnecting toad vehicle and scouting sites and campground layout before taking RV in.
There is a very nice playground. There is a boat dock, however, it needs some work?it appears to be unstable. Nice little beach (wish it were larger). There are a couple of places to get directly into Lake Superior from the campground.
In addition to the regular campground, they have an overflow area. There are no hookups in the overflow, but it is great to have that option.
We were nervous about being able to get a site, because they do not accept reservations. We pulled in mid-week and were able to get a great site. Every weekend we were there, the campground was full, so I would not suggest coming in on a Friday.
Good Verizon coverage. Easy to get DirecTV satellite. Strong Wi-Fi, we understand they had recently improved the Wi-Fi reception?thank you!
We look forward to coming back to this campground. We loved the small town feeling, hope they don't change a thing.

For Thompsons West End Park: Lovely setting on Chequamegon Bay. Inexpensive at $25 night or $150 week. A few blocks to shopping and restaurants and super access to lakeside trail, beach, boat launch and ATV trails. Heavy rains left standing water but campsites are large enough to work around it. Must move to entry to dump tanks and fill water. All sites are back in. No reservations but there is an overflow area.
