For Bolivar Beach Flats: Wide Flat compacted sand beach at low tide. Came in at 12:15 am (low tide) Sat via Rettilon Rd and made a left at the end of the road, clearly marked signs. Free to drive on beach, saw cars, even, tents, trailers and bus. Not crowded/not deserted plenty of open space. No trouble driving on with 2 wd, just watch out for loose sand at the dune edge. Smells clean, very little debri, Sleep to the sound of the surf.

For Bolivar Beach Flats: Beautiful beach to stay on. Was ok for our 37' class A to drive. Sign at this locale says can camp without permit (free) for 12 mile east of the entrance sign. There was lots of room in December.

For Bolivar Beach Flats: We visited and pulled up right on the beach along the dunes for the new year 2017. What a treat. Permits weren't being issued because they expire at the end of the year anyway. Lots of streets with beach access off 87 going through Crystal Beach. We moved further down the beach the second night due due to concerns about the tide with a storm offshore. No problems finding a new spot. People with campfires and fireworks everywhere. We cleaned the beach because even though there are trash containers every 100 yards there was a fair amount of plastic trash left by uncaring idiots. On the southwest tip it was a bit more secluded but we felt safe. Occasional noise from ships going to the port of Galveston. We were told that it's definitely busier during the summer. Overall a great place to stay for next to nothing.
