For Sand Hills State Park: Came to Hutchinson for the NJCAA basketball championships in March. Planned to stsy here 6 nights, stayed for 1. Agree with all the nice things Cindy from Kansas wrote, but note these drawbacks: the bathhouse may not be available due to the uncertainty of there being a campground host. The pull through sites all have their tables, grills & fire grates roadside and their utilities lakeside. We would want them the opposite so we could enjoy the view & privacy.

For Sand Hills State Park: This campground is fairly new, so no shade which did not bother us since weather is much cooler this time of year. Trees have been planted near many sites so in time shade will improve. It is located very close to Hutchinson KS. We are here for this year's KS State Fair. Two of our grandchildren participated in 3 days of the 4H horse show. Prefect for us. It is very quiet,in the middle of nature with many trails to take advantage of. Unfortunately we had no time to try them out. We have a very nice large paved, back-in full hookup site. There are several of these paved sites, several back-in on gravel and then many drive in parallel to the roads around the perimeter of the campground. Each site has a picnic table, grill and lantern hangar. This is a real gem if you are looking for a nice quiet campground (a mile or so from major roads and just off a dead-in road), are visiting in the area or need a stop traveling through KS. Hutchinson has the Cosomosphere and the Underground Salt Mine. Yoder, a small Amish community is just down the road with a wonderful restaurant and Yoder Meats just across the road. Being a state park there is no wifi but the Verizon signal is great! Price is very affordable at $20/nite.
