For Smishek Lake City Park: This is a terrific county park on a lake. I’ve stayed here three times – twice on 2020 and once in 2021 – while working on a photography project. I did not use the electrical hookups but the campsites are pretty straightforward. They’re on grass with trees to the rear, minimizing the afternoon sun exposure. There are pit toilets and a covered picnic shelter. Verizon cell service is good. There’s a convenience store a few miles away in powers lake. This is North Dakota, and there’s a very bright flare from an oilfield waste processing facility on the south end of the park. Really great for small boats. The lake is swimmable, too. It can be mildly crowded on weekends. Note it is NOT open to camping in Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s. $5 honor box payment.
