For Silverhorn Creek - Banff National Park: Silverhorn is (in 2018) a new campground built on the location of a former overflow camping area. Sites are gravel, wide, mostly level, and nicely spaced. Four pull-through sites would be large enough for a big rig with a tow car. The other sites are back-in; most are very deep and would fit almost any size motorhome or trailer with room for a car as well. Although a few sites are backed against the forest, most sites are in an open area. Some of the sites are next to a creek. Parks Canada has planted bushes between sites; in a few years, it should be quite nice. But in giving up privacy and shade, you get something else in exchange: absolutely fantastic views. The campground is ringed by rugged mountains; I never tired of watching their appearance change as the sun moved. There are even two red chairs in the campground (placed by Parks Canada in spots with iconic views). There really isn’t much to do here. There is no camp host and there are no interpretive programs. Three small ponds are not designed for water sports. There is one very short path but no hiking trails. On the plus side, firewood is free (a Parks Canada policy to prevent people from bringing firewood from home). Most campers seemed to be using Silverhorn as a base while they explored elsewhere. Nonetheless, there were many families that seemed to be enjoying the campground even without amenities. There is no water or dump station at Silverhorn, but both are available at Waterfowl Lakes Campground only 5 km north. Tenters would probably not like this campground due to lack of water. We travel in a motorhome and are accustomed to dry camping, so lack of water and power was not an issue for us. We loved this campground and will definitely stay again.
