Campground Directions:
Trailhead accessible by either hiking, taking the Airport Shuttle from Avalon, or by Safari Bus. The trailhead for the campground is 9 miles from Avalon and 11.8 miles from Two Harbors. Once at the trailhead, it is a 1.5-mile moderate hike into the campground. In order to reach the island, boat transportation is the most popular and easiest way to travel. Catalina Express passenger boats leave from San Pedro, Long Beach, Dana Point. The Catalina Flyer departs from Newport Beach. All of those ports access Avalon, on the east end of the island. In order to travel to Two Harbors (the Isthmus) on the west end of the island, passenger boats leave from San Pedro only. Boat transportation is for people, no vehicles allowed. Another way to reach the island is by private boat or plane/helicopter.
