You Can Camp in All Kinds of Weather

Camping is not just for summer anymore. Camping is fast becoming a year-round activity. And while you usually plan camping trips with hopes of good weather, severe weather always is a possibility any time of the year. But you can still enjoy it if you are prepared. Stay positive and enjoy what mother nature throws at you instead of getting upset by what you can't control. You can control how you prepare however.

Camping and Tornadoes

Your likelyhood of encountering tornadoes is seasonal and location based. In the south, it is March through May. In the North, you'll be more likely in the summer. You know what to do. Head to interior rooms without windows or to a basement.

Your campsite doesn't have an interior room? Your RV doesn't have a basement? Out in nature, a ditch or some low area is the destination for safety. Get low to the ground, as low as you can, and cover your head. You want to protect your head from whatever is thrown into the air as debris. Avoid underpasses, bridges, park shelters. They only act as a wind tunnel and can be more dangerous. They are more of a target to ripped apart with you in the debris.
