For Monte Sano State Park: Beautiful campground and well kept. Unfortunately it rained the whole time we were there (not their fault). You are sure to see deer and be sure to check out the Japanese gardens. Hope to go back when weather is better and maybe find cause to bump up the rating to 5 star.

For Monte Sano State Park: Beautiful and peaceful. Sites vary from level to almost level. Plenty of space an privacy between sites. Lots of hiking and nature trails, being on a mountaintop there are not many mosquitoes at all. Scenic overlooks to the valley and the foothills of the Smokey Mountains are just made for pictures. There is a local observatory and planetarium and Saturday evening shows. I only wish there was a dog park area where the critters could get some off leash playtime. But there is a dog park just 10 minutes away. This is our first visit but will not be our last.

For Monte Sano State Park: Found this place on our way north and booked a FHU site for one night. When we got here and realized how beautiful it is, we extended our stay! Sites are quite spacious and have picnic table and fire pit. Hiking and biking trails are well groomed but do get messy in periods of heavy rain. Our dogs loved the peaceful walks. Oh, and the DEER...we watched about 12-15 of them gracefully meander through behind our site (#6) just before dark. AT&T service was pretty good and tv with analog service offered plenty of options. High tree canopy keeps it shady.

For Monte Sano State Park: This park has older but clean restrooms / showers. The sites are primarily sand and some gravel. It rained overnight and the site was a mess with some standing water and the wet sand was a mess to work in. Great ota television reception. Not satellite friendly at all, too many trees. Verizon LTE two bars.

For Monte Sano State Park: Really nice campground in this beautiful state park on top of a small mountain that overlooks Huntsville. Large level sites. Lots of trees. Clean bathrooms and showers. We had a FHU site with no problems. Good TV reception with our amplified antenna (no leaves on trees no doubt helped!) Cell service was a bit frustrating at times. We'd definitely stay here again. NOTE....Don't use the GPS directions!!! They'll take you on a narrow twisty route up the mountain that includes a wicked switchback. Use the Governor Dr/431 entrance. Also, it gets foggy real fast on the mountain so be watchful of weather conditions condusive to fog. We also found a great place to buy a big wheelbarrow full of firewood for $10 in downtown Huntsville at 2215 Holmes Ave NW. Huntsville is a wonderful place to visit!

5th Wheeler

For Monte Sano State Park: Good campground with a lot to do. Good hiking and biking trails. Really nice playground for the kids. Sites are well shaded. Hard to get satellite reception. The buddy sites are a bit awkward. They are not facing each other. Would rather just have 2 sites across the road from one another unless you are in a pop up and can pull in on one site and back in on the other. Most all sites have plenty of space and seem private. Overall this is one of our favorite campgrounds. We have stayed multiple times and will return. Didn't have the trouble with the FHU issue like the other reviewer with the big rig as we have a 29' 30 amp 5th Wheeler. Use Governors drive coming from Huntsville or 431 coming from Guntersville.

D-rock

For Monte Sano State Park: Stayed a night with a 16ft camper in early August. Only used the camper for the a/c but really didn't need it. Cool and dry on top of the mountain in the heat of the summer. Decently private spots. Very clean facilities. Tons of hiking and biking trails. Plan on returning in the future for a longer stay.
