For Monte Sano State Park: Wonderful park and campground. We stayed two nights at a water and electric site overlooking Huntsville and right opposite the restrooms. Very nice facilities. Laundry available too. After leaving to visit our daughter we decided to return for six more nights, this time in a full hookup site. We have a 16 foot trailer and had no problem having both trailer and tow vehicle in the spot. I enjoyed hiking the numerous trails throughout the park. We were there in early March and it was about 10 degrees cooler on top of the mountain. Lots of trees so I'm sure it would be cooler there in the summer as well. Definitely enter the park from route 431 no matter what your GPS says.

For Monte Sano State Park: Stayed 4 nights in a big rig. Power was off when we got there but came back on in about an hour. Power went off again next day for about an hour.
Park is pretty and all sites are shaded but about 1/3 of them are short for big rigs. About 25% (those with FHU) have 50 amp plugs but are actually only rated for 30 amps (according to park ranger). 30 amp receptacles would not work using 30 to 50 amp adapter bought from Tiffin. Had to leave the park to find campground with 50 amp receptacles. (We had been in FHU site but had to move to make room for incoming RV that had reservation for that particular site and no other FHU sites were available.)
Lots of walking trails. You should only get there via Governors blvd; lots of switchbacks and steep hills on other routes.
Many tents only sites and that means campfires and smoke. After Hours gate code changes approximately weekly so late arrival can be a problem. Ask for Gate Code when you make your reservation if you will be late. Office closes at 4pm.
Roads are paved but sites are not (not fun when it rains for 2 days straight like it did when we were there).
We would stay there again only if we knew we would have a FHU site.
