Haunted HotelsHaunted Hotels, Bed And Breakfasts and Ghostly Places Some Guests NEVER Want To Leave Friday, September 07, 2007Hotel Monteleone
I have stayed at the Hotel Monteleone 20+ times and have seen many ghosts. One ghost, on the 4th floor, will walk through you like he had shoved into you in the hallway and keep on walking to the corner and make a right turn. But the problem is that when you turn right you walk into a wall. Another is a ghost of a little gir that will walk up to you, pull on you pants and ask if you have seen her mother. Some ghosts just stand over you and watch you sleep.

I attended a private party aboard the Queen Mary with my fiance in March of this year (2007). We took several photographs outside on the deck, and after downloading them, discovered that "orbs" appeared in one of our pictures. This has never happened before to us, and it was pretty interesting to see. Leigh

I've stayed in the hotel , We was going to a Kenny Chestney, Sara Evans, and others were at Freedom Hall. So we (my brother and girlfriend and another friend) Wanted to stay in a nice place, Nice it took forever to find it, But when we did The building was white older looking but just beautifull, we walked in their was people open the front doors and in side WOW we walked to the front desk and desk staff was so nice. WE walked to the bar got a beer and waited for the ok to go to our room. WE went to the old elevators by the staircase and a elder man went with us. He got in a shut his eyes on the way to the the floor and the doors open he stepped out first we all looked at him 513 was the door that our keys opened our rooms had the old vic. beds the poles on the four conners of the bed. He stepped in and said any questions call the front desk. Wow we ordered room service on drinks. They brought it up around 12 mins. WE talk about the room and how in Russell County, nothing compaired to this, just wow. well we stay and got ready and went out to eat. Two blocks down the OLD SPAGETTI Factory, and walked back. We Got to the room tv blasting. It wasn't on when we left. We thought maybe room service brought extra pillows or something but nothing looked different. So we didn't think nothing. It was about 10 pm and we was getting sleeping so we filled out our breakfest things and put them on the door, I looked down a dead rose was laying in front of the door, Not knowing nothing about this place, It was strange. I picked it up and brought it into the room to show it to everyone else they smiled and said nice. It was crazy looking so i throwed it in the trash. During the night we kept smelling a strange purfume in the room. it lingered and went away. around 3am it sounded like someone running on hardwood floorings i mean running , Theres not hardwood floors theirs carpet. We kept thinking what in the world I openned the door to tell whosoever to stop. I openned the door the carpet was their another dead rose, there wasn't no one there. I looked down the hallway no one. I went back to sleep. I around 4:30 thru 5:00 the tv came on blasting. We all jumped and got up. shut it off and laid back down. Room service canme about 9 am in the morning brought breakfest we ate and talk about the night strange., We took showers and was getting ready to go to the book store and the little walkway of glass thru the blocks. And came back we ordered a cab for the concert. It was 12:30 in the night when we got back. They had a ball going on people dressed in their finest limos out side . I never saw nothing like it., We got back to the room and again tv was on . we just jumped in the beds and shut our eyes late in the morning Summer our friend jumped from the bed close to the window to our bedand laided on me I jumped up and she said window. It looked like someone was trying to get in the window. I woke up my girlfriend and she jumped!
d out of the bed my brother woke up hes a deep sleeper. and seen what was going on the curtains moved and it was over. we left the light on and looked out side we was on I think the 3 story. and nothing was able to get in u couldn't we stayed up the rest of the night. Untill the next morning our bags were pack and we went to the front desk. The desk person asked if we had a peacefull stay . Hell no we said he looked at the keys and smiled and said no wonder. He explain the bride falling to her death in the elevator shafts. and it was a place of wierd things. He talk to another guy and was going to give us a discount and asked would we be back. NO we said it was a nice place and the stranged happenings they could keep. We left and never went back. Labels: Seelbach Hilton Monday, October 09, 2006The Bullock HotelWe are from Canada, and one time coming back from Denver, Co., we spent the night at the Bullock Hotel. We stayed in the King room, which had already been booked, but for whatever reason, they didn't show up. It's a beautiful room! But for some reason, my husband and I didn't get much sleep. The next morning, the hubby went out to start our semi, and I went into the bathroom to wash up & get ready to go. All of a sudden, I started hearing noises that made me stop what I was doing, and try to figure out what was making the noises. It was most definately coming from inside the room, but can't explain what it sounded like. I remember standing there thinking, hmm, this is an OLD place, I wonder if it's haunted?? When I went down to check out, the 2 gals behind the desk, said, "Oh, you were in THAT room!!" I asked why? Then they told me some stories about it. We've acually stayed there once since, not the King room, but one next to it, hoping for something more to happen, but nothing did!
Tuesday, October 03, 2006The Golden Lamb Inn in OhioWhat struck us as unusual is that TGL is not advertised as being "haunted". To TGL's credit, neither its web site nor its on-site literature alludes to any paranormal activity at the inn. (We happened to find out about TGL by chance one day only after reading a "Haunted Ohio" book. In fact, it was the entry in that book that made us decide, "Why not?" as we explored vacation possbilities for our anniversary celebration later that month.) However, during our stay, a staff member or two shared stories about some of their personal experiences while working at the inn...but only after WE brought up the question of the inn's possible hauntings. In addition, we not only experienced some "weird lighting effects" in our room when we stayed there, but we believe we brought home an other-worldly visitor from TGL, who spent a month or more hiding--and then replacing--various things from our home until, on a hunch, we finally asked it to stop! (It complied and/or left our home immediately after that request...) I'll be happy to share specific details if you need them, but our experiences at this lovely, antique-filled inn convinced me that it is, indeed, haunted! (As this was our first foray into seeking "ghost territory", we began our journey a little excited...but also skeptical. In each instance, we attempted to attach logical solutions to what we had experienced...but came away with a conviction that ghosts DO exist.)
Monday, October 02, 2006Ocean City Hotel Haunted by Emily
I work for the ghost tour in OC and I snuck in one night with my daughter Elise to take a picture of the portrait of Emily on the wall of the second floor. As we snuck in thru the door from the stairwell to the second floor I told my daughter to quietly shut the door behind us, and she did, as we started to walk toward the piano and the picture of Miss Emily the door, us never hearing that it had been opened again, SLAMED SHUT SO LOUD THAT I SCREAMED AND WELL OUR COVER WAS BLOWN? Take it for what you will but I belive that EMILY BLEW OUR COVER? No one came up stair after us but I got my picture and we left really fast! I COULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF THERE FAST ENOUGH!
Ocean City, New Jersey GhostsI am a summer esident of Ocean City, New Jersey. I have gone on the Ghost Tour down there and have heard all of the Stories about Emily. I was intesrested in going into the hotel and looking to see Emily one night after coming off the boardwalk in the Summer of 2004. We (My father, my mother, and myself) did not know where to go. We decided to go upstairs to the second floor. There was only two lights on and they were right as you walk up the steps. We were looking around and my mother went over to the picture of Emily and said "hey guys I think This is Emily." I looked at it and said "No I don't think that is it" and as I said that I turned my back on the "hall of Mirrors", not knowing at the time that was it and later finding out, it was dark and not a singal light on in that hall. As soon as I said what i said and turned my back old style piano music started playing, as if right out of the 1920s, from the place where there were no lights. I was scared because ! I had heard all of the stories and now was witnessing the story. My father described it as "being piped in, a very erie feeling came over me." My family and I quickly walked out of the hotel with nioce smiles and looking relaxed and as soon as we got outside i was scared beyond all belief. I have only told a few people this story becaus enobody else besides thos peple and my family believe me, so i figured i would tell you. Now we did not actually see Emily but the stories have it that we did have an incounter.
Sunday, October 01, 2006Mendocino, California Ghosts
I would like to check with you ensure I got the right hotel where I stayed with my partner back in 1984(?) because I would like to visit Mendocino, California again. We checked in and we were about ready to sleep in bed. Somehow we noticed and saw for a few seconds that a little fat blue/gray lady walked in our room and passed our bed then it was gone. We were scared and shaked and we turned all lights on in the room all night. Following the morning we came to the lobby to spoke with the manager who checked us in we got mad at the manager who didn't informed to warn us about the ghost visited in the guest room. He told us the ghost won't bother the guests.
Saturday, September 30, 2006Cimarron, NM Ghosts at St. JamesI stayed at the St. James Hotel in Cimarron, NM in March of 2004. I had heard about the "ghosts" and was intrigued. I am skeptical about things like that, but there were a few things that a friend and I could not explain. Shortly after checking in, we were looking at photos and news articles in the lower hallway when something hit me upside my head. I looked around and there was nothing that I could see that could have done that. Then, the hair on the back of my head started raising up as though someone was running their fingers through it. The temperature dropped dramatically while those things were happening. Later, when we were leaving our room to exlpore the town of Cimarron, we stepped into the hallway and the temperature dropped again and we both smelled roses. The scent was there for about 10 seconds then it was gone. We went up and down the hallway looking for air fresheners and the like. There was nothing. The desk clerk said that was Mary Lambert! , the wife of the man who built the St. James. Several pictures taken had a few oddities on them. There is no explanation for what we experienced. It was a very nice place to stay. The staff at the St. James were so friendly and attentive. We will definately be going back
Thursday, August 10, 2006Bourbon Orleans Hotel HauntingIn the spring of 1996, my wife, daughter, and I stayed four nights in the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. Nothing out of the ordinary happened until the last night of our stay. We were staying in an interior suite on the sixth floor, with a king-size bed for my wife and I, and around the corner in a nook a queen bed for our daughter (then 13). After turning out the lights around 10 PM after a long day of sight-seeing, my wife and I heard light footsteps (as of a small child) running on the carpet from the opposite end of the room, seemingly stopping suddenly right at the foot of our bed. It was pitch black, and I addressed our daughter, asking what she was doing out of bed, at the same time turning on the bedside table lamp and expecting to see her at the foot of our bed. Instead, we saw the covers of our daughter's bed rustle as she stuck her head around the corner, still in bed. Although my wife and I both heard the footsteps very clearly, our daughter, who was only a! bout 20 feet away from us, heard absolutely nothing. We could not explain the footsteps we heard so clearly. Nothing further happened that night, and we left the next day as planned. Prior to this incident, we had no knowledge of any "ghosts" or other unusual activity associated with the hotel. We were subsequently told that the infirmary of the children's academy had been located on the sixth floor.
Tuesday, July 18, 2006Bourbon Orleans HotelMy family and I stayed in the Bourbon Orleans Hotel about three weeks ago and we were visited by what we believe to of been ghosts. We had a number of ackward things happen to us on all different days of the time we were staying there. One of the things that happened to me was my sister and I woke up in the middle of the night being very cold. She had looked at her phone to see what time it was and the next morning she told me that it had been about 5:15. She had to go to the bathroom and so did I so she went first and I stood at the end of the hallway waiting for her to finish. A few moments later at the end of the hallway were the door was I could see the light coming through from underneath the door. There was a shadow on the left side and it was coming back and forth like something was hanging on the door. Everytime that the shadow would "hit" the door there was a very shallow knock. Alltogether it seemed like a body, or something heavy was very lightly hanging ! and hitting the door. So me being tired and scared to death I freaked out and stood still and asked my sister who was in the bathroom if she heard the noise and at that moment it stopped. She said no and I could tell she was scared and hurried out of the bathroom and went back to bed. I went over to the door to see what it was and looked out the peephole and there was nothing there. So I ran back to bed and went to sleep. The next morning my mom woke up us up freaking out and told us how the night before my stepdad was absolutely positive that he had put my moms' favorite pillow on the bed and when we came back to the hotel they looked everywhere and couldn't find it. She told us that she woke up in the middle of the night being absoulutely freezing lifted up her head to see the time and it was 5 oclock. So she peeked around a little bit and she saw her pillow and it looked like it was on the floor but being so cold she just left it there and went to sleep. The next morni! ng she found it hanging on a hinge of her dresser just barely holding on. That same morning as we were telling eachother about what had happened to us the night before when my sister mentioned that when I asked her if she heard the noise hitting the door she felt like a freezer had just opened on her, and that she started shaking and that's what had freaked her out. Another thing that had happened to us on our stay was about 2 or 3 times that we went in the elevator we would press one to go to the main floor and it would go to level 6 and there would be no one there. Well thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope this was the right place to send this and I hope you thought it was interesting enough to use. Sincerely, Lauren
Friday, July 07, 2006Farnsworth House Inn
I went to the Farnsworth House Inn in mid-June this year and had an incredibly paranormal experience. My friend and I stayed in the Katherine Sweeney room, and experienced most, if not all, of the occurrences we were warned about. When we first checked in, we immediately heard the footsteps on the ceiling coming from the attic, which is vacant and never rented out. We took a few pictures of the stairs leading up to the attic and saw an apparition in each and every photo. Later we took out the Ouija board and talked to a spirit named "Terry" who claims to be the apparition in the photos and also told us alot about himself. Before going to bed we heard our doorknob turn, footsteps approaching the bed, an indentation on the edge of the bed, and my friend felt a hand on her shoulder. She also claims to have felt a body sleeping between the two of us during the night. It was a nice stay, and I did not feel threatened at all by the ghosts. I would definitly go back!
Monday, July 03, 2006Deadwood Bullock Hotel GhostWhile vacationing in Deadwood 2 summers ago I was walking down the street with my Aunt early in the morning and as we walked by the Bullock Hotel I saw a handsome man sitting on the bench in western gear. As my Aunt and I were walking into the hotel I mentioned him to her and she hadn't noticed him so we walked back outside and he was gone even though it had only been a few moments ago that he was sitting there. When we walked into the hotel and saw the statue of him and that it said something like he was a ghost that never left the place I had an eerie feeling that maybe I had seen him. This weekend I purchased a book called The Roadside History of South Dakota and while looking through it I saw a picture of a man that looked exactly like the ghost and when I read the caption next to it I realized it was a picture of Seth Bullock. I'm looking forward to coming back for a visit to Deadwood and will definitely stay at the Bullock Hotel instead of the Holiday Inn Express and maybe I'll get to see him again.
Friday, June 23, 2006“The Shining” Investigation
Join professional, amateur hunters and just plain ghost lovers as they investigate the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO. This magnificent Hotel was the inspiration to Stephen King’s “The Shining” and he himself spent time there developing his horrific nightmare, that we still enjoy today. Granted the spirits in his award winning book are more on the devilish side. The hotel does house some of the less life threatening spooks and has possibly done so shortly after its opening in 1909. This amazing structure offers the ghost hunters a late night investigation as we venture into it’s darkened halls and closed down facilities. The night may hold an eerie silent chill, but who’s to say some spirits are just dieing to speak to an unsuspecting ghost hunter. So spend the weekend learning what other ghost hunters do, collecting evidence, sharing your findings or just make new paranormal friends as we investigate the ghosts of Haunted Stanley Hotel.
January 27th & 28th 2007
More details and event are being scheduled, so please feel free to contact AGHOST at Phone: 253 203-4383 or email Theresaghost@yahoo.com Friday, May 05, 2006Cavalier Hotel CorrectionCorrection about the Cavalier Hotel. The Cavalier Hotel cannot be inhabited by ghosts of the 19th century unless they are ghosts prior to its construction. This hotel, while historical, is fairly young to its "historical" peers such as the Chamberlain. Built in either 1926 or 1927 it is known for the cat ghost as well as an elevator that runs in the off season when the original building is closed to guest. The elevator will stop on certain floors for no reason or I do not know if there is any signifigance to where it stops. It is very possible a famous ghost could inhabit this hotel as Adolph Coors (of Coors beer) met an untimely death in this hotel. I am looking for information about a supposedly very haunted public room called the "Room of Nations" that I believe was in the Cavalier Hotel. The only thing I have ever seen about it was just a small article about "a famous Hampton Roads hotel with famous guests" that had the Room of Nations. The Cavalier certainely fits the bill with guests such as JFK, Al Capone and Adolph Coors. The story told of this room that is so haunted that when opened for any reason seems to catch fire (or its contents do) repeatedly to the point where staff had to close off the room completely and all access restricted. All contents being storred in it were removed to avoid further fires. I cannot find anything on it. The Cavalier will not confirm or deny this story. Do you know anything about it or is this the correct "Hampton Roads hotel"?
Wednesday, March 15, 2006Ghostly Hotel DelMy husband and i stayed at the hotel del and requested the haunted room. This was a very small room and in a very bad location. We had made some jokes when we frist came in the room that the reason they called it the 'haunted room' was because they probably wouldnt get anyone to stay in it otherwise. We sat down after we put our bags away and decided to order some room service. We were both sitting in chairs to the side of the bed and all of a sudden the pen on the night stand fell to the floor. My husband and i looked at each other like 'did you see that?' the pen had one of those caps that have a clip on it so we knew it hadnt rolled off the nightstand and neither of us were near the nightstand. I put the pen back on the nightstand and made sure it wouldnt be able to fall off again. later that night we went out and when we came back a few hours later the pen was on the floor again. Neither of us had been in the room alone so we knew we werent trying to trick each ! other. In the middle of the night my husband and i both woke up when the TV suddenly turned itself off. The next morning when we woke up the pen was on the floor again. We moved rooms that day and havent stayed in that room since.
Sunday, March 05, 2006Myrtles Plantation provides a memorable anniversaryMy husband and I stayed at the Myrtles for our anniversary in July of 2000. We had researched all the ghostly activities before making our arrangements. We were the only ones in the house. We had asked for Woodruff's daughters' room which is upstairs, but it was too hot so staff placed us in the bedroom int he newer section of the house. We knew it would be a memorable experience the moment we arrived. Not knowing where to enter the house, I opened one of the 2-front doors. We heard a tour of the house going on in another room. My husband went out the back doors to look for someone. I stayed in the entry hall and waited. From walking around on the creaking, wooden floor boards, the tour guide excused herself and came into the entry hall. She looked around the walls before she noticed me standing in the middle of the room. It was obvious she did not expect to see someone in the flesh. She asked how I got into the house. I explained we came in through the front door. She stated that was not possible as the doors are always kept locked and she had checked them herself that morning. I told her that nevertheless, the door was unlocked. She muttered to herself outloud as she walked over and examined the unlocked door. Talking out loud, she was saying, "These doors are always locked, we don't unlock these doors...these doors stay locked." She relocked the door (3 locks including a dead-bolt) and told me I could not be in there alone and that check in was in another building behind the house. I chuckled and told her that obviously we were expected since someone opened the door for us. None of the staff wanted to talk about the ghost stories or happenings. I finally reminded one that we chose the Myrtles strictly because of the hauntings. She then quietly related the past history and some of her own personal experiences. That night, even the care taker was out for the evening. While locked out of the main house, I could feel the history walking around grounds. At one point, I raised my hands in the air. I had planned on asking outloud to, "Show me the magic!". WIth my hands in the air, all the birds, bats and other animals in the old trees went silent. There was no noise, no breeze, no sound at all. It was as if the house was waiting for me to ask. I was not sure what would happen if I did ask. The quiet was too spooky so I slowly lowered my hands and said nothing. All the animals started back up with their chatter. We heard foot steps outside our door on the back veranda. These would stop as soon as we opened the door. We went to bed late that night without seeing anything beyond a strat cat. As I drifted into sleep, I felt I was being tucked into bed. I thought it odd since I never liked being tucked into bed. I fell asleep. At 4:00am, a very loud noise woke both of us up at the same time. We think the sound came from behind the wall separating our from the main house stairway. Neither of us could (or can) identify the sound, only that it was loud. I could not get out of bed! My husband was also tucked in but was able to get the covers and sheet undone. I was trapped and tucked in clear up to my neck! My husband had to come to my side of the bed and pull the sheet out so I could be released. We know we didn't tuck ourselves into bed. I did not know till much later that Choloe was noted for tucking people in at night. I highly recommend this most haunted site to everyone!
Friday, March 03, 2006Hotel in Bisbee AZ
Our family stayed at the Copper Queen Hotel in Bisbee AZ last weekend, sometime during the night of Jan. 15th/16th I awoke to the sound of laughter in the hallway outside of my room, and also the sound of running down the hall.,Thinking it was one of mu adult kids trying to scare me, I opened the door and looked out and said, ok which one of you is the smart ass? No answer... During lunch the next day, I asked again who was the smart one, and I told them about their laughter, and the running. All of them looked a little odd (not that that's not normal for them) and they all asked if I was serious, and then they explained about the third ghost at the Copper Queen being the sound of a young person's laughter and the sound of running. So I guess I heard the ghost, loud and clear.. Mary Anne
Monday, February 27, 2006Gadsden HotelWe stayed at the Gadsden for the first time between Christmas and New Year's, 2005. We had heard of this grand, historical hotel from Tucson locals for many years, but since there's not a lot of reason to go down to Douglas, we had never managed to get down there. Well, when I first saw the building sitting there in the middle of this very sad and forgotten looking little town, it seemed to loom out of the middle of nowhere like a some desolate mesa in the middle of a wasteland. I almost said 'let's forget it and go back to the Copper Queen (in Bisbee, AZ)' but we decided to look inside just for kicks. Well, walking into that lobby was like walking into the past, and it was the beginning of one UNFORGETTABLE night, let me tell you! We stayed in a room on the second floor, it was small and unassuming, had all the original bath fixtures and cute little vintage hooks and even an antique corkscrew built into the wall. The tub was one of those built-in deep, cast i! ron types and in surprisingly fine shape. There was this tiny, dark closet across from the bathroom, however, and after my husband went to sleep and I was sitting up doing my NY Times Crossword, I began to hear sounds coming from the vicinity of the closet. I brushed it off as possibly the heating system, or the pipes in the walls, whatever. But it seemed to keep up and progressively get louder then softer (sometimes even sounding like heavy labored breathing), over what seemed like just 20 or 30 minutes but after a while I realized it had been a few hours. The next thing I realized was that I had finished the puzzle, and I'vew never been able to finish the Sunday Times puzzle in less than 4 or 5 days -- and this was SUNDAY NIGHT. Who had really completed the puzzle?!? I had tried to wake Bob several times, but he would roll over and spout something silly like "Tall man, black suit, no head?" (which was the 'tabloid' description of the 'hotel ghost'); then, after I had finally decided to give up and try to get some sleep (it was around 3 a.m.), I turned off the light . . . then suddenly felt this horribly cold chill, and found that I COULD NOT MOVE A MUSCLE. It was like I was being held down by a massive weight of some kind. I swear this is the absolute truth. I could not even find the strength to speak, much less scream. I was, in a word, PARALYZED. I know, without a doubt, there was someone, someTHING, in that little hotel room with us that night, maybe not malevolent, but certainly mischievous. I told the concierge about it the next morning, and she had me write the account of it in a little journal she was keeping, and in that booklet I read several other stories by previous guests -- and there was more than one who had had a similar experience as me. We went back to the Gadsden and stayed New Year's Day, 2006. We had planned to go for New Year's Eve but were unable to get away. Well, we had no 'spiritual experience' that night, and I admit I was disappointed (though I had the hardest time sleeping, just waiting for something to appear!). So . . .when we checked out I expressed my disappointment, and she said "Oh, you should have been here last night (New Year's Eve) -- He (the ghost) was all over the place -- we had a bunch of guests who said he visited them -- one guy even got a picture with his digital camera -- he said he was going to email it to us when he got home." Shucks! Oh well, there's always next year . . . and btw, the Gadsden has a great little bar, nice coffee shop and dining room with tasty, homestyle food. Excellent prices, too! And if you go during the holidays, they always have a massive Christmas tree (maybe 2 or 3 floors high) decorated in the 'old fashioned' style with lots of ornaments, tins! el, colorful lights, and a REAL stuffed mountain lion wearing a Santa hat!
Tuesday, February 07, 2006La Posada Hotel Elevator ShaftI stayed at the La Posada in Albuquerque, NM in July of 2004. I specifically stayed there due to stories of hauntings. The staff related the story about a woman who fell down the elevator shaft and is sometimes heard as well as seen around the elevators and/or lobby area. While I saw nothing during my 2-day stay, I was bothered by someone tapping on my room door. When I would open the door, no one was there or in the hallway. Staff told me I was virtually alone on that floor. I found it interesting and didn't feel so much alone knowing someone was walking the hallways. The hotel is rich in history, as is that area in Albuquerque. The lobby area is one of the prettiest and well refurbished I have visited. I recommend La Posada to others and hope to one day quietly sit in the lobby and people/spirit watch.
Friday, February 03, 2006Finger Lakes Hotel is HauntedIn order to have a ghost there must be evidence that a death occurred in the residence. I own Ambroselli's Villa Serendip Bed and Breakfast at the Woodworth House, in the Romantic Finger Lakes Region of New York State. I purchased the property in 1998 after it had been abandoned for fifteen years by its previous owners. After intensive restoration we opened our historic bed and breakfast and began welcoming guests. We opened in June and in July I visited a nearby blueberry patch to gather berries for freezing for luscious blueberry muffins, pancakes and cobblers. That evening, I had just completed baking a blueberry pie and was cleaning up the kitchen when, from the other room, I heard someone whistling. I thought perhaps I was going to get a "wa;l-in" guest but no one was there. I dismissed the event and returned to the kitchen, and to my amazement it began again; the same notes over and over. When I finally became a bit alarmed, I telephoned my best friend and said, "I think I have a ghost!" She asked if I wasn't scared and I assured her that I didn't think it intended to do any harm as it was "whistling." I said, "I wished it would either show up or shut up and as suddenly as it had begun the whistling ceased. A week or so later it happened again. I realized that the tune was a civil war era tune that I had heard several times over the course of my life. In October, of that same year, I was visited by relatives of the original owners of the Woodworth House and mentioned theghost. They asked me about it and to my astonishment when I told my story they went to their genealogical records and showed me evidence of Henry Paterson Woodworth, a civil war soldier who had fought at the Battle Of Bull Run, in Manassas, VA,; had returned to Cohocton after the war and died from his war injuries right here at the Woodworth House in 1865. He had never married. He only manifests himself during blueberry season and only when it is very very quiet. He is welcome visitor anytime.
Sunday, June 05, 2005Caroline's room at the Thornrose HouseWe loved the hospitality of the innkeepers and the inn is a beautiful place. My husband and I checked in on a Friday night in early April 2005. We knew nothing of the inn's reputation of being haunted and we were staying in Caroline's room. The first night we did not really notice anything, although I think I tend to be psychically sensitive. When I would get up during the night to go to the bathroom the first night I would not walk around the bed but would crawl over my husband. I've never done this before. The following night my husband and I were sitting on the bed and I sensed a presence in the corner of the room. I did not see anything with my eyes but saw a vision in my mind of a woman dressed in a white dress with dark hair pinned up in a bun. She was, in my mind pacing back and forth between the corner of the room and the window wringing her hands. I told my husband when we were sitting on the bed that I felt this impression. I was a little un-nerv! ed and every time I came out of the bathroom would refuse to look in the corner of the room. I've never seen a ghost before, nor sensed one so strongly. We did not know anything of the room or the fact that things had happened in this room in the past. In the morning I asked the innkeepers about the history of the place during breakfast and the fact that the room we were in was noted to be haunted came up. I knew it was a lady because I saw the vision in my mind. My husband was utterly shocked!!
Thursday, January 20, 2005Lookout Inn - New Orleans
As a professional psychic and paranormal investigator, I must recommend THE LOOKOUT INN in New Orleans be included in your Louisiana listings. I first identified haunted activities there while the building was still being renovated. There are several active entities. A woman who was driven by despair to drown her infant, an invalid war veteran who still continues his watch of the nearby Mississippi River, to name a few. There are audible, tactile, visual and olfactory phenomena occurring with regularity that are sure please guests interested in having a haunted experience. An added plus is that the owner is very open to guests usage of paranormal detection equipment and can even arrange a private séance!
Sunday, January 09, 2005Hermitage Inn in Petersburg, WV
As the owner of the Hermitage Inn in Petersburg, WV, I have not encountered any ghosts to date. However, several of my employees swear that they have seen images of a blonde haired woman on several occasions. We have had pictures of ghostly images. Strange things have happened in the kitchen of the restaurant, such as a stack of plates rolled out on the floor like a deck of cards when the cook returned from a break. One customer, while in the toilet, swears that a ghost passed by him. Also, just recently a guest reported his room key missing in the morning and water had been poured over his wallet, which was left on the dresser across the room. There were no possible leaks above or anywhere near his wallet. Another guest spotted an image of a woman in his doorway and followed her through the hallway until she disappeared up the third floor stairway.
Wednesday, November 03, 2004Buxton Inn....Granville Ohio
I have a story to tell you. a few years back my best friend and er parents took me on a trip to the Buxton Inn we had heard it was haunted so we decided to check it out....at the time i lived in Cincinnati ( now live in Texas). we brought a video camera with us to record during the night. we had several experiences while there. during the day before dinner we all had decided to take a nap. her parents were in one part of the room and we were in the other. The room we were in was kind of like a suite because you walked in and there was on bedroom and you walk through another dorrway which led you to the bathroom and another smaller bedroom. ( the back door to outseide was also in the smaller room. My friend and I were in the back smaller bedroom. While three of us slept my friend's mother could not sleep. The reason for her lack of sleep was that she kept smelling a strong aroma of smoke as if someone was smoking ...none of us smoke. she checked out the back door...no one was smoking. she checked out the front door...still no one. she went a couple doors down to the main entrance and check in lobby....no one there smoking either. WE later found that the room we stayed in was the smoking room back in the days of the original owners. in the smaller bedroom there were also some owl statues on the dresser. everytime we entered the back part of our rooms those birds were turned a different direction. as we went to sleep that night we did everything to set up the camera. we then went to sleep. somtime in the early morning hours i woke up to see a shadowy figure, appearing to be male...standing at the foot of the bed. i sat up and could not take my eyes off of him. my friend woke up and asked me what i was doing i told her and we promptly hid under our covers until daylight. she later told me that all night long she could hear people stomping up the staircases outside and pacing the walkways outside . as you already know Granville is quite a small town and i doubt the hotel guests would be out all night in granville because there is nothing in granville to keep them out so late. when we checked our camera all we got was a blue screen....not fuzzy stuff but blue screen as if we had never set it to record...which we had.
Sunday, October 17, 2004The Menger Hotel
I stayed at The Menger Hotel this year in July with my family. My Aunt and Uncle left my cousins and I at the
hotel so that they could spend some time alone at a bar near by.Around 11pm we heard knocks on the wall every now and then. When my uncle and aunt came back to the hotel and we all were trying to sleep We heard a knock on the wall then a sound of a man moaning. We knew that no one was in the other two rooms beside us so it seemed odd to be hearing what we heard.During the night my uncle said he could feel like someone was in the room with us. He had to share the bed with his family and there was only one corner of the bed with no one laying down on.He said he felt the mattress behind him bend down he tried to turn his head slowly to see what was behind him but when he looked there was nothing. The next morning on his left top shoulder there was a small red mark on his back, like if a person had scratched him.To this day we cannot figure out where he got it from, and we stayed in the newer part of the hotel but below us was the old part. Wednesday, August 25, 2004Haunted Jefferson InnThe Jefferson Inn in Jefferson, Texas is definately haunted. Although my friends stayed there one long weekend and experienced nothing, I lucked out in my one night stay there. Driving from Colorado, I decided to head to Jefferson without stopping along the way. I'd called from the road and asked for a haunted room. As I entered the room, I told the ghost , "I'm exhausted from the long drive. If you want to haunt me, fine...if not, no problem." Had dinner across the street then settled into the wonderful clawfoot tub. The mirror was steamed up and writing started slowly appearing. First word was "help". Then above that, the word "judy". Then finally, "redrum" on the bottom. Jumped out and got my camera and took several pictures. I was skeptical about the word 'murder' written backwards. However, the next morning, I fogged the mirror once again and no writing came up. It's fortunate that I was too exhausted to be afraid. Slept like a baby. Want to go back !!
Friday, August 06, 2004Hotel ColoradoWhile they don't specifically advertise it as haunted, there is a brief mentionon their webpage. Also, when you check in, if you request it they will give you a sheet detailing the occurances in the hotel. There is a little girl with a red ball in Victorian clothes, a woman who stands over men while they sleep, an elevator that acts funny, the smell of cigar smoke in the lobby, and various other things like doors opening and closing, drawers banging, voices, etc. My husband stayed there in 4th grade and had an unforgettable ghost experience. We recently stayed there with our family and had a couple minor occurances. It is located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Thursday, July 22, 2004Haunted Cal-Neva
I was reading your haunted postings, one writer posted a lengthy description regarding the Marilyn Monroe cabin. He/She mentions the plans that Charles Bluth has to tear down the cabins of Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe cabins.
It is true, a reporter at the San Jose Mercury is working on the story as we speak. Unfortunately, Mr. Bluth will be building condos in their place. There goes another icon of historical pop culture. And any appeal of staying at the Cal-Neva. |
